Sabkush Lifestyle News: Eva Longoria Parker.

Sabkush Lifestyle News: Eva Longoria Parker.Eva Longoria Parker

Eva Jacqueline Longoria Parker (née Eva Jacqueline Longoria; March 15, 1975) is an American actress. She is best known for portraying Gabrielle Solis on the ABC television series Desperate Housewives. She became a nationally recognized model in the 2000s after appearing in several high-profile advertising campaigns and numerous mens magazines, reaching #14 in the FHM "Sexiest Women 2008" poll, and having appeared on the cover of various international womens magazines including Vogue, Marie Claire and Harpers Bazaar.[2] Longoria married NBA guard Tony Parker in 2007 Eva Jacqueline Longoria was born in Corpus Christi, Nueces County, Texas, the daughter of Tejano parents, Enrique Longoria, Jr. and Ella Eva Mireles.[3][4] She was raised Roman Catholic.[5] Longoria is the youngest of four daughters, her sisters being Elizabeth Judina, Emily Jeannette and Esmeralda Josephina.[6] The Longoria family have resided in Texas since before the creation of the United States, predating the English-speaking settlers.[7] Despite working on a farmland that had been handed down to them from past generations, the family often had very little money; Enrique and Ella struggled for many years to give their children a decent upbringing. On The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2006, Longoria shared with viewers an introspective look into the hardships she faced in her formative years while growing up poor; she took cameras on location to the family farm and showed how spartan their life had been. Longoria admitted that only when she had made it in show business, did things begin to look better for her family financially. In another interview with Datelines Stone Phillips, she also revealed the snubbing she had received from her siblings. "I grew up as the ugly duckling. They used to call me la prieta fea, which means the ugly dark one," Longoria said.[8] Longoria originally wanted to be a fashion model and sent in photos to a modeling agency but was declined because of her height. Longoria attended Marvin P. Baker Middle School and later Roy Miller High School; she subsequently received her Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology at nearby Texas A&M University-Kingsville. During this time, she won the title of Miss Corpus Christi, USA in 1998. After completing college, Longoria entered a talent contest that led her to Los Angeles, California; shortly after, she was spotted and signed by a theatrical agen Longoria landed her first television role in 2000, guest-starring in an episode of Beverly Hills, 90210. Another guest appearance in General Hospital the same year brought her big break on the popular American soap opera The Young and the Restless, in which she played psychotic Isabella Braña Williams from 2001 to 2003. After leaving The Young and the Restless, she was seen on the now-cancelled Dick Wolf revival of Dragnet. Although it lasted only two seasons, the show gave Longoria another leading star credit to her name. Following Dragnet, she starred in two ill-fated productions - Señorita Justice, a poorly received direct-to-video film, and a television film titled The Dead Will Tell. In 2004, Longoria landed a role that elevated her to the A-List. She starred as adulteress Gabrielle Solis in the worldwide break-out ABC hit Desperate Housewives. As the show became an overnight sensation, Longorias career was well and truly launched. But she has never considered her career to have jumped off so suddenly: "I think it’s funny when people say I’m an overnight sensation, because I’ve been working at it for 10 years. Shortly after her debut on Desperate Housewives, Longoria starred in a poorly received direct-to-video film titled Carlitas Secret, for which she was also co-producer. In 2006, she was rewarded for her performance as Gabrielle Solis in Desperate Housewives when she was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy along with her co-stars. Even though neither Longoria nor any of the rest of the cast won, she was awarded the ALMA Award and named entertainer of the year. She also starred opposite Michael Douglas and Kiefer Sutherland in the 2006 thriller The Sentinel, which was her first major role in a theatrical movie. In 2006 she played the character Sylvia in Harsh Times starring Freddy Rodriguez and Christian Bale. People en Español listed her among its "Most Beautiful People" for 2003. Longoria continues to be included in lists of Hollywoods Most Beautiful and was listed #1 in Maxims Hottest Female Stars of 2005 and 2006, becoming the first woman to top the list in two consecutive years. She was ranked #9 in the magazines Hot 100 of 2007 list.[10] In honor of Maxims 100th issue in 2006, Longoria was featured on a 75-by-110-foot (23 by 34 m) vinyl mesh replica of its January 2005 cover located in a Las Vegas metropolitan area desert.[11] Longoria is being considered to portray Mariah Carey in an upcoming Broadway show which is about the American pop singer. Leona Lewis is Careys first choice. Vanessa Hudgens and Longoria Parker are also being considered if Lewis does not take the job.[12] In April 2009, Longoria topped People en Español Los 50 Más Bellos list. She was featured on the cover alongside Maite Perroni and Ana Bárbara. It has been rumored that she will play Janet Van Dyne aka The Wasp in the upcoming Avengers film due to the fact that she has been spotted reading core Avengers titles such as The New Avengers annual and Marvel Adventures: Avengers.[13][14][15][16] Longoria is also attached to appear, and executive-produce, a film currently titled "1954". This film is inspired by the life of Puerto Rican who originated from Brazil. Lolita Lebrón.[17] [edit] Endorsements In January 2007, Longoria was chosen to be the first face of Bebe Sport. She appeared in the Spring/Summer 2007 campaign, photographed by Greg Kadel. The actress also holds model contracts with LOréal and Hanes, New York & Co.[18] Longoria also has a contract with Magnum Ice-Cream,[19] Heineken,[20] and with LOréal.[21] She is a part of Microsofts "Im A PC" ad campaign,[22] and she and Tony Parker are currently appearing together in campaigns for London Fog.[23] In April 2010, Longoria released her first fragrence "Eva by Eva Longoria". Longoria is of predominantly European and Amerindian descent. Her Spanish ancestry can be traced back to her ninth great-grandfather, Lorenzo Suarez de Longoria (b. Oviedo, 1592), who emigrated to the Viceroyalty of New Spain, which became now modern-day Mexico, in 1603, and whose family originated from a small village called Llongoria, Belmonte de Miranda, Asturias, Spain. Longoria is the Castilian spelling of the surname.[24][25] According to research done by Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr., of Harvard University, in 2010 for the PBS series Faces of America, Longorias ancestry is 70% European (Spaniard), 27% Asian/Amerindian, and 3% African.[26][27] Through the generations, Longorias ancestors moved north to the modern US-Mexico border. In 1767, her 7th great-grandfather received almost 4000 acres of land along the Rio Grande in a land grant from the King of Spain. This land stayed in the family for over a century, enduring through the influx of Anglo settlers in the aftermath of the Mexican-American War and Civil War. The most surprising revelation came when Evas Asian lineage showed she is related to cellist Yo-Yo Ma, who is of Chinese heritage.[28][29] Longoria was married to General Hospital star Tyler Christopher from 2002 to 2004.[30] On November 30, 2006, Longoria became engaged to Spurs point guard Tony Parker.[31] The couple was officially married in a civil service on Friday, July 6, 2007, at a Paris city hall. This is a requirement of French law. It was followed by a full Roman Catholic wedding ceremony at the Saint-Germain lAuxerrois Church in Paris, France on Saturday July 7, 2007.[32] Their marriage had its first ordeal when French model Alexandra Paressant claimed to have had an affair with Parker.[33] Both Parker and Longoria vehemently denied these allegations through their spokespeople, saying "All high profile couples fall victim to these sorts of things in the course of their relationships. It appears that this is not the first time this woman has used an athlete to gain public notoriety."[34] Parker initiated a $20 million lawsuit against the website that first reported the story, which later issued a full retraction and an apology, stating "X17online.com and X7 [sic], Inc. regret having been misled by Ms. Paressant and her representatives and apologize to Mr. Parker for any damage or inconvenience this may have caused him or his wife."[35] In 2008, Longoria opened a restaurant in West Hollywood called Beso, which means "kiss" in Spanish.[36] She and business partner Todd English opened a second Beso steakhouse in Las Vegas in December 2009.[37] The Hollywood Beso will be the focus of a pilot episode for a reality series called Beso: Waiting on Fame to air on VH1 in late 2010.[38] In 2009, Longoria enrolled in a Masters program in Chicano Studies and Political Science at Cal State University, Northridge. According to Eva, "because of my involvement with the NCLR and my charity work, I really wanted a better, more authentic understanding of what my community has gone through so I can help create change."[39] In September 2009, Longoria was appointed to a bi-partisan commission issued with the task of determining the feasibility of the creation of a National Museum of the American Latino.[40] When Desperate Housewives comes to an end, she plans to move to France with her husband.[41] She has expressed confusion over fellow Housewives actress Nicolette Sheridans lawsuit against series creator Marc Cherry.[42]

Sabkush Headlines: GNOME Do Launcher Starts Apps on the Right Foot

Sabkush Headlines: GNOME Do Launcher Starts Apps on the Right FootGNOME Do Launcher Starts Apps on the Right Foot

I have a problem with Linux! It has too many cool ways to navigate the desktop and launch programs. I fell in love with the really awesome GNOME Do recently and started a feud with my other computing personas. One relishes the panel, and another is enamored with the desktop draped in icons of my always-used programs. The desktop icons fetish is a carry over from my earlier Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows daze. Its easy to set up in Ubuntu Linux and similar distros with a right-click from the applications menu. Launching apps from desktop icons is hard-wired into Puppy Linux. The launch panel infatuation comes from my first exposure to the Linux OS. I use four or more workspaces (virtual desktops) to segregate related project apps onto the same screen. Desktop icons are quick and available for launching an app in a virgin workspace. Clicking an icon in the panel eliminates having to find the desktop when open windows hide its icons. My launch-lovers quarrel is far from over. Until now the desktop icons and the panel icons complemented each other. But the GNOME Do interface is radically different. It needs no shared usefulness with my other two launcher heartthrobs. Even worse, GNOME Do comes with a BFF (Best Friends Forever) option called "Docky." Together, they bring an entirely new look and feel to living in Linux. Putting Do in GNOME GNOME Do is an app launcher, program switcher and file-searching tool wrapped into one really cool interface. Depending on what options you select, it can do even more. For instance, you can right-click to run, play, chat, etc. Use Do (the apps nickname by admirers) to quickly run applications, find Evolution contacts and Firefox bookmarks, locate files, artists and albums in Rhythmbox or IM buddies in Pidgin. You also can open a new email window for a name entered from your address book. Do not let its name fool you. If you run other desktop environments like KDE, you can still use GNOME Do. This baby is a kin to the Mac OS Xs Quicksilver and the GNOME Launch box. GNOME Do is plug-in-based. It comes preset with a handful of plug-in helpers already engaged. Scrolling through the Plug-in tab under the Preferences option presents a hefty list of more cool stuff. Do Basics GNOME Dos basic interface opens a small window in the center of the screen over whatever program is already there. To bring up this search window, just click the GNOME Do icon in the notification area on the desktop. Another option is to press the Super or Windows key and the space bar simultaneously. Type a letter to bring up an alphabetized menu of corresponding apps and related search items. Or type the first few letters of an app you want to run. The results appear in a window under GNOME Dos splash screen. Scroll through the listing with the arrow keys and press the Enter key to launch your desired app or open the listed file in its associated program. Using Do is quick and simple. Theme Choices Do comes with several appearance settings that blend in nicely with the various Linux desktop themes. Choose from Classic, Mini, Glassy or Nouveau. At one point in GNOME Dos growth, its developers mated the interface with what is also a stand-alone launch app called "Docky." This is now another theme choice in Do. If you run the Docky option, you can place the docking bar at the top or the bottom of your screen. You can hide it or not as well as scale its size and animations. With and Without Using the Docky theme adds a much different atmosphere than the other themes. It gives the interface a much more functional look and feel. In fact, you can install the stand-alone version of Docky from here and bypass the features found in GNOME Do. But you get so much more usefulness from the combination. So it does not make much sense to choose one over the other. Perhaps that was the rationale GNOME Dos developers had in mind when they merged the two separate apps. Mac-Like Docking That is what the Docky component brings to GNOME Do and the Linux desktop. It is pretty nifty. Other Linux apps attempt the recreate the functionality of the Mac OS X dock bar. Even Microsoft Windows 7 tried to put more Mac-like pizazz in its latest rendition of the Windows program bar. But none of these efforts pulls it off as nicely as Docky does. It provides configurable dock space. As you traverse the pointer over the icons on the bar, the icons raise or magnify above the bar.

The journey has gone by quickly. Time flies, you just need to enjoy, Tendulkar remarked after the end of first days play in the third Test against Sri Lanka. There are sometimes rough patches, but I followed a simple formula and whenever I have gone though those phases I have worked harder. Tendulkar, who made his debut way back in 1989 against Pakistan, is the leading run scorer and century maker in Tests and ODIs. He has 13,742 runs in 168 Tests at an average of 56.08, with 48 centuries and 55 half-centuries. In 442 ODIs, he has accumulated 17,598 runs, striking 46 centuries. He is also the only batsman to score a double hundred in ODIs, which came against South Africa this year. Tendulkar, who once Don Bradman said bats like him, said it was the biggest compliment in his career. Thats the greatest compliment I got in life when Sir Don himself said that his style was similar to mine. It was a huge compliment. And then I was picked in the All Time World XI by him and it was a big morale booster for me. As a sportsperson, everybody wants their performance to be appreciated. After that I felt I am among the top guys. It was a dream to be regarded as one of the top players in the world. I continued to work harder to stay at the top. I performed consistently. It is a great satisfaction to wake up every morning and to do what I always dreamt of - to play for India. Asked what changes have taken place in Test cricket, Tendulkar said now the batsmen are prepared to take more risks. I feel batsmen are willing to take chances because of Twenty20 and One-dayers. It has prepared the batsmen to take risks.

Sabkush Headlines: Is your partner a party pooper? Is your partner a party pooper?

Picture this. A school reunion is being planned. You are worried sick and not excited, as it’s one of those parties where everyone is supposed to come with their spouse! So is there a problem? Yes. A big one. You start thinking of excuses of why you would be missing from the do – ‘He got busy with a last minute meeting,’ ‘I had to urgently rush to my mom’s place,’ and many more. Well, the ‘problem’ is that the moment you suggest this outing to your partner, there will be a big row. Again. Why? Because he hates going to parties and get-togethers. The moment someone mentions ‘party’, excuses race through your mind. Shares HR manager Charu Sinha, “It is a vicious circle. I make new friends and if we get along well, I would like to go out with them. But that’s when, it all goes bust. Every time they ask us out for dinner, I come up with pathetic excuses.” And it gets worse during the party season when all the people you know are partying together, while you and your partner sit at home and watch his favourite movie or listen to nice music or just chit chat. “There is nothing wrong with my partner. He’s the best guy I could have asked for, but our social quotients just don’t match. I can’t say ‘No’ every time,” says writer Smriti Kalra. The situation can be embarrassing too. “My friends threw a surprise birthday party for me at a small restaurant. And one of them called up my wife and asked her to join too. But as expected she didn’t turn up. They kept on calling her and she gave this lame excuse of a splitting headache. I was embarrassed. We didn’t talk for a week after that,” says Mohit Chawla. He goes on to add, “Instead of feeling ashamed, she had the guts to tell me that I should have told my colleagues that she doesn’t like socialising.” Relationship expert Sameer Chopra says, “Initially couples argue, but then the spouse will start going alone. Ultimately it will become like a habit and one partner will create a life away from their partner, which is not good for any relationship.” Alternatively you can request him to be with you for only a few special occasions when you ‘need’ to be a twosome. You may have to cut down on your outings as well, but then you have to think what is more vital – the outing or your partner. Such people value professional relationships, but prefer to keep it separate from their personal life. Says Preeti Kapur (name changed), “I see my colleagues everyday, so why would I want to hang out with them after that? I don’t see any logic.” The introverted partner needs to care for his/ her spouse feelings and make an effort sometimes. There are far too many things in life which we may not like, but we have to attend to them smilingly. A selfish attitude is not likely to take one too far and the faster both the parties concerned understand this, the better it will be for the

I’ve never asked God for anything,’’ says the feisty actress who is one of Bollywood’s shining lights. “I truly believe that God gives what he knows is best for you. So I usually just say a thank-you to Him for everything that he has already given me.’’ She adds, “This birthday is extra special for me, my husband (Ajay Devgn) my daughter (Nysa), my mother, my sister and my parents-in-law are happy because I’m carrying my second child. And everyone around me is especially excited about the addition to the family.’’ This year, Kajol is receiving a custom-made gift from her best friend, filmmaker Karan Johar. Dharma Productions in association with Sony Pictures India and UTV Motion Pictures are releasing their We Are Family on September 3, barely a month away from Kajol’s birthday. “Listen, I love everyone at Dharma,’’ she says. “Karan especially. I know all their names and over the years, I think they have all come to like me too. They are my extended family. Working with Karan has always been a joyous occasion. Besides, Karan always brings some of the best scripts to me.’’She adds that she is very partial to Karan and in the case of We Are Family — to the young director Siddharth P Malhotra: “But, I wouldn’t do their films if I felt that the script isn’t spectacular. WAF is the one of the most balanced scripts that I have read. And if I didn’t feel that I could shine through, then I wouldn’t have accepted it no matter who the maker is.’’ Recommending WAF to her audience, Kajol says, “The film has a lot of dynamics. There is an interesting tension in the various relationships that this family has. And it shows everyone in very human light. There are no saints and there are no villains. So you can identify with each and every screen character. WAF shows you why each of us is blessed to have and be part of a family. And the film also shows you how families can rally around you through good times and a crisis.’’

"I always wanted to be a detective since childhood, but circumstances led me to a totally different track. Now that Ive started a new life, all Im bothered about is earning some respect and settling down soon," 36-year-old Bunty told IANS in an informal chat. "Once I set my life, Ill think about marriage and probably marry a decent girl next year," he said in a low but confident tone. It was Bunty who inspired the National Award winning film "Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!" directed by Dibakar Banerjee. After being in and out of prison for 13 years, he was last released from Amritsar Central Jail June 15. He has been hired as a detective for Sanjeev Deswals Aaider Detection and Protection Pvt. Ltd here. "My training is going well and Im liking it. I am being taught how to tackle a case, different categories, location tracking, background work, tracing, how to use presence of mind, computer work, research and development, etc," said Bunty, who has studied till Class 7. Police gave him the sobriquet of superchor for his compulsive and audacious thefts for which he displayed an unbelievable presence of mind. Originally from Delhi, Bunty the thief struck all over India - be it in the national capital, or Chandigarh or Chennai or Bangalore. He is even believed to have travelled to Nepal and China on fake passports! He was known to regularly stay in five-star hotels as a thief. Media reports still mention anything from 300-550 cases against the thief-turned-detective. "These figures are false," said Bunty insisting there were never more than 50 cases against him. He was convicted in some, but was released after serving his term, he said. Sunil Gupta, spokesperson of Tihar Jail where Bunty was lodged for almost three years, on the other hand, also says there were around 54 cases against him. Gupta thinks Buntys transformation is a facade. "He cant be a detective or anything else. He only wants to be in the spotlight like always. Most of the news about him is a media creation and not true. He is not that intelligent. At times he even used to have day dreams and hallucinations during his stay at Tihar," he said. Bunty admits that his family comprising his parents, grandmother and two brothers is not willing to take him back. His brothers live in west Delhis Vikaspuri area. Nevertheless he now rides a legally obtained new Hero Honda bike and has all his expenses managed by his current employer. He also wants his share of the Bollywood pie. "(Filmmaker) Ram Gopal Varma asked me for my life story before Dibakar but I didnt give it. I had reservations and no knowledge about such matters then. But Dibakar then took the story from me and others in the jail," said Bunty. "I was in Mumbai recently for a case study and I called him up for some compensation as the movie worked on my name. Dibakar told me he is in London and will talk to the producers (UTV Motion Pictures) once he returns to pay me something. "I informed him that my advocate was going to file a case against them but he requested to hold on. I am going to ask for anything between Rs.1 and 1.5 crore and if nothing happens, Ill take legal action," he added. Rumour mills are also abuzz that he would appear as a contestant on reality show "Bigg Boss 4". Bunty, however, dismissed the speculation. "These are all baseless rumours. I dont want to talk about it," he said. "There are other channels like News 24 that approached me for a show on crime. They were even talking of paying me around Rs.20,000-25,000 per week, but I have asked them for some time till may be next year... Zee News also called me for a show, but nothing happened," he added.

Sabkush Headlines: Linux Kernel Gets Multicore Muscle With Latest Upgrade

Sabkush Headlines: Linux Kernel Gets Multicore Muscle With Latest UpgradeLinux Kernel Gets Multicore Muscle With Latest Upgrade

The latest version of the Linux kernel was released on Sunday, offering not just a host of bug fixes but also new features designed for multicore environments. Most notably, tapping technology contributed by Google (Nasdaq: GOOG), Linux version 2.6.35 includes Receive Packet Steering (RPS) and Receive Flow Steering (RFS) features that help to spread network handling across the CPUs available in the system, according to the Kernel Newbies website. In his announcement of the release, Linux creator Linus Torvalds referred readers to the Kernel Newbies site for a full description of its features. Tripled Performance The addition of RPS and RFS technology "effectively emulates what a multiqueue NIC can provide, but instead it is implemented in software and for all kind of network hardware, including single queue cards and not excluding multiqueue cards," Kernel Newbies explained. A benchmark test, in fact, recently showed how an eight-core Intel (Nasdaq: INTC) CPU-based server with an Intel e1000e network adapter went from 104K tps at about 30 percent CPU usage to 303K tps at 61 percent CPU usage when using RPS and RFS. In other words, the technology almost tripled performance while doubling overall system utilization, Charles King, principal analyst at Pund-IT, told LinuxInsider. "The context for this is that the industry and businesses are firmly moving into a world where multicore technology is the processor technology of choice across the x86 world -- it doesnt matter if youre using Intel or AMD," King explained. Efficiency Is the Name of the Game The beauty of multicore technology is that it can offer advantages in both performance and system efficiency, as seen in the benchmark tests, he pointed out. "What the Google technology does is, it helps identify the network traffic Planning for the next peak season? Ensure your website is fast, secure and available 24/7. Click here to learn how. and then balances that against an appropriate number of cores on the given system in order to maximize performance," said King. "So, is this a big deal? Yes and no," he asserted. "Its incredibly geeky, but at end of the day, the new kernel and RPS and RFS technologies from Google will help Linux users make sure they are getting the most out of their x86-based networks," King concluded. "Efficiency is the name of the game in the data center these days." Enhanced Graphics Stack Coming less than three months after the release of the previous iteration, 2.6.34, the new version also offers Btrfs improvements including support for Direct I/O, which is used to bypass the filesystem cache, and complete -ENOSPC support. An experimental XFS delayed logging feature was added to the new version, as was a KDB kernel debugger front end, a variety of perf improvements, enhancements to the graphics stack, and a memory compaction mechanism.

The incident happened during the opening day of the final Test when 12th man Yuvraj entered the ground and made his way towards his team-mates with water bottles and some drinks in hand. But soon a section of the spectators started booing by calling him "water boy". An enraged Yuvraj then raised his middle finger towards the booing fans. Taking note of the incident, Team India manager Ranjib Biswal said they are planning to file a police complaint against the fans who jeered Yuvraj. "We may lodge a police complaint against the fans who had tried to jeer Yuvraj when he had come out to provide drinks during the match," he said. Yuvraj, who missed the second Test due to illness, failed to make it to the playing eleven in the final match.

Sabkush Headlines: What to look out for before you buy a dog

Sabkush Headlines: What to look out for before you buy a dogWhat to look out for before you buy a dog

Not all dogs are suited for life in this metro. Extreme climate, space constraint and specific dog nature are major factors that determine which dog comes into your home. Delhi-based veterinary surgeon Vivek Arora told IANS: "Space and time are factors which should be looked at before adopting a pet. Your family life is also very important in deciding what pet you adopt." Former banker Sanjeev Kumar, who ended up opening a chain of pet stores called Pet Bytes, lists four factors to keep in mind while selecting a dog: - The most important factor is climatic conditions. - Nature of the dog. It should ideally be friendly. - Your requirements. Do you want a lap dog, family dog or guard dog? - Space constraints. If the other factors fit the bill, ignore these. So now which are the five dogs best suited for life in Delhi? Number one on the list is the commonly found street dog. As Mark Twain once said: "If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and a man." Kumar said: "Street dogs are sturdy, dont fall ill, they are used to the climatic conditions, they make good family and guard dogs...and adopting a street dog is also a good thing." And the price? Free, free, free! Second on the list is the Labrador Retriever. "Even though not the best of guard dogs, they make excellent family dogs. They are very friendly, good companions and are extremely intelligent," he said. They cost anything between Rs.5,000 and Rs.15,000. Tenzing Wangchuk, originally a resident of Darjeeling, who has been in Delhi for the last 18 years and owns a Labrador, told IANS: "They are good family dogs and playful with children. When you come home from work and play with the Labrador, its a great stress buster." Next on the list comes the Beagle. It falls in the hound category and requires a lot of exercise. But the advantage is it has short coats, can adapt to the climate and is quite small (approx 14 inches) and so it does not require much space. Beagles also make good family and guard dogs. They come for anything between Rs.15,000 and Rs.25,000. Then comes the Dalmatian. Again, a friendly dog with a short coat and very adaptable to city life. The price ranges from Rs.7,000 to 13,000. Fifth on the list of dogs to keep in Delhi is the Boxer. Contrary to name and reputation, Boxers make good family dogs, are very protective of children and also make excellent guard dogs. They come for Rs.7,000 to Rs.15,000. Does size matter? Depends. There might be just enough space for you and the Saint Bernard in your two-room apartment. If its a pair of German Shepherds, then the question doesnt arise. As Kumar said: "Its about a place in your heart and a corner in your house." "All dogs require a lot of exercise, a good diet, but the hunter breeds and guard dogs do require some more space," Kumar said. If you have a dog in your city home, seeking advice on it from a vet from time to time is a must. "You need to groom your dog and take him for walks twice a day. Make sure you bathe the dog once a fortnight and regular visits to the vet and vaccination are necessary. You also have to take care of his daily ration needs," Arora said. There are, however, some dogs which are rather unsuitable for the average Delhi home. These are the Saint Bernard, Siberian Huskies, German Shepherds, Pit Bull and Rottweiler. Some of these dogs are basically suited for cooler climes and in some cases, well, their bite is much worse than their bark. As actor-comedian Jimi Celeste had remarked: "I have a great dog. Shes half Lab, half Pit Bull. A good combination. Sure, she might bite off my leg, but shell bring it back to me."

It’s got nothing to do with the sky-high prices of real estate in Bandra west. But, the top storey flats in the upcoming apartment opposite the landmark building Fortune Heights is selling at more of a premium than penthouses elsewhere in the area. The reason? Fortune Heights is where Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan live. They have an apartment on the 10th floor. And Saif’s production house has its office on the second. Now the wily builder of the building across is rumoured to be looking at a “good price” for the flats that overlook Bollywood’s most celebrated couple’s living room! When Saif bought the penthouse, it was one of the most coveted properties in the area. The actor, who lived in Versova, took a lot of time selecting this apartment. He also bought a huge office on the second floor. Then, Kareena moved in. However, as is the case in every bylane of Mumbai, suddenly there is another tall building across the road. And Saif and Kareena are seriously house-hunting again. Bebo, who didn’t know too many details of the opposite building, said, “Saif and I love our current home. It has a very good vibe. But, yes, I can see other buildings have suddenly cropped up. And at some point our privacy may be compromised. So we are looking at buying a bungalow in and around Bandra. It’s hard to find the kind of home that Saif has in mind. He wants a very English-styled villa!” If they don’t find that, the next best thing to do would be to buy the top storey flats in the building opposite!

Sources said they expressed strong reservations against the Chief Ministers policies, including his ambivalent instructions to security forces over restraint and action. Criticising the Chief Ministers functioning, the Congress leaders pointed out how Omar did not ask his Cabinet colleagues to visit their constituencies and reach out to people when trouble started last June. Chaudhary Mohammad Aslam told The Indian Express that the delegation of Congress leaders had only apprised the PM of their concerns about the situation in the state. The Prime Minister was said to have assured them that he was looking into the matter, he said. Asked if the delegation had demanded placing of the Assembly under suspended animation, Aslam admitted that one of the leaders had demanded it "but that was in another meeting". Meanwhile, the wave of protests convulses the city and large tracts of the Valley on Tuesday testing the writ of both the state government and the security forces who struck back. This set off clashes and firing in which five protesters were killed and 18 wounded, five of them critically. Over the last five days, 27 people, including a nine-year-old boy, have been killed taking the civilian death toll to 45 since violence began eight weeks ago. After Chief Minister Omar Abdullahs meetings with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and other Central officials, the state government asked police and security forces to go ahead and crack down. So Srinagar woke up to announcements from police jeeps that the government had issued "shoot-at-sight orders" against those defying curfew. Later, officials denied any shoot-at-sight order and said residents were told to stay indoors. But few listened. Soon after daybreak, people came out in the citys Qamarwari neighbourhood. At 10 am, as the gathering swelled, a heavy contingent of police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) opened fire to halt the protest. Six protesters were wounded and taken to the nearby Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) Hospital where 20-year-old Meraj-ud-din Lone succumbed to his injuries. As news of Lones killing spread and his body was taken back to his neighbourhood, hundreds took to the streets raising pro-freedom and anti-India slogans. The police and CRPF opened fire at a group of local photojournalists who were covering the protests. At 11 am, several people defied curfew restrictions and came out to protest in the old citys Narwara neighbourhood. It was here that the police and CRPF had opened fire in which 17-year-old Anees Khursheed Ganai was killed. This angered residents who flooded the streets forcing the security personnel to withdraw. Except for one corner of Watalkadal, all bridges over the Jhelum river that connect various neighbourhoods of the old city were taken over by angry crowds. Ganais body was taken in a massive procession that continued to swell as people walked towards the Jamia mosque. Later, thousands -- including several women -- sat on roads outside their neighbourhoods, shouting slogans, offering prayers. Mats were spread out, special langars organised across downtown to feed the protesters. "We dont want to confront the police and CRPF. They are not allowing us to express our anger peacefully," said Mohammad Ramzan, an elderly man who sat on a pavement. "They know their presence infuriates people. They are killing our children. Let them leave us alone". The CRPF men watched from across the bridge barely yards away. Tapes from the early 1990 uprising were played on mosque loudspeakers all around. Hurriyat hardline leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, released on Sunday, had called for a march to Eidgah to pray for those killed during the protests. Geelani had appealed to the youth to "exhibit discipline and refrain from stone throwing." Sources said Geelani was freed because the government felt the ailing hardline leader could use his substantial influence to halt the stone-throwing. But the government changed its mind apprehending a massive protest march and at 2 pm today, when Geelani stepped out of the hospital, he was promptly re-arrested. In south Kashmir, in Frisal in Kulgam district, hundreds took to the streets to protest the death of two civilians on Monday. The crowd clashed with security forces who opened fire in which a young man, Jehangir Ahmad Bhat, was killed. "We received three wounded persons at the hospital," said Chief Medical Officer Kulgam, Dr Nazir Ahmad. "One of them succumbed at the hospital while another critically wounded was referred to Srinagar hospital". Bhats killing triggered massive protests at Frisal and a police post was set on fire. So was the house of a Special Police Officer (SPO), accused of firing. In neighbouring Kulgam, thousands hit the streets and staged a sit-in outside the District Police Lines. At SKIMS, 20-year-old Riyaz Ahmad Bhat died this morning. He was wounded on Saturday when police opened fire on a group of protestors at Khrew. Hundreds from Khrew and its adjacent villages joined his funeral procession. In north Kashmir, police and CRPF opened fire on a group of protestors at Rangwar wounding three persons. A critically wounded, 45-year-old Mohammad Akbar Wani was hit by a bullet in head and was shifted to SKIMS hospital in Srinagar where he is battling for his life. The police firing sparked massive protests in Baramulla as thousands of people from Rangwar and its adjacent neighbourhoods took to streets protesting against what they termed "unprovoked" police firing. Police also opened fire on protesters at Shalteng on the Srinagar-Bandipore road, wounding three persons, one of them critically. The protestors then attacked the residence of state Agriculture Minister Ghulam Hassan Mir in Srinagar. Mir doesnt live in the house. His hotel in his native Tangmarg was also attacked with stones, its window panes were shattered. The attack on the property of a senior politician and sitting minister has worried the administration. Protesters also attacked police stations, government offices and railway stations. Protests and arson were reported from Ompora and Sheikhpora villages in central Kashmirs Budgam district. The villagers tried to set ablaze the railway station but police and CRPF opened fire wounding two protesters critically. In north Kashmirs Kupwara district, where a youth was killed on Monday, thousands of people defied curfew and ransacked a Border Security Force (BSF) bunker. At Shumnag, the native place of Khursheed Ahmad, who was killed on Monday, more than 10,000 people assembled and raised pro-freedom and anti-India slogans.

Ashley was born as Ashley Tyler Ciminella in Granada Hills, California. She is the daughter of Naomi Judd, a country music singer and motivational speaker, and Michael C. Ciminella, a marketing analyst for the horseracing industry.[1][2] Ashleys elder half-sister Wynonna is also a country music singer. At the time of her birth, her mother was unemployed and did not become well-known as a singer until the early 1980s. Judds parents divorced in 1972, and in 1973, her mother took her back to her native Kentucky, where Judd spent the majority of her childhood.[3] She also lived in Marin County, California for two years during grade school. Judd attended thirteen schools before college, including the Sayre School[4] in Lexington, Kentucky and Franklin High School in Tennessee.[5] She briefly tried modeling in Japan during one school break. An alumna of the sorority Kappa Kappa Gamma at the University of Kentucky, she majored in French and minored in anthropology, art history, theater and womens studies. She spent a semester studying in France as part of her major, a move that mirrored her role as Reed in the television series Sisters. She graduated from the UK Honors Program and was nominated to Phi Beta Kappa, but did not graduate with her class.[6] Forgoing her commitment to join the Peace Corps, after college she drove to Hollywood, where she studied with well-respected acting teacher, Robert Carnegie, at Playhouse West. During this time, she worked as a hostess at The Ivy restaurant and lived in a Malibu rental house, which later burned down during the great Malibu fires of fall 1993. On May 9, 2007, it was announced Judd had completed her bachelors degree in French from the University of Kentucky.[7] In a May 2007 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Judd explained she had completed her degree requirements in 1990 with 27 more hours taken than the required 120 hours, but had mistakenly thought she was one class short. She only needed to "sign a piece of paper" in order to graduate. DeGeneres then surprised Judd by presenting her with her diploma, which DeGeneres had acquired from the university. [edit] Career Judd appeared as Ensign Robin Lefler, a Starfleet officer, in two 1991 episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation, "Darmok" and "The Game". From 1991 to 1994, she had a recurring role as Reed, the daughter of Alex (Swoosie Kurtz), on the NBC drama Sisters. She made her feature film debut with a small role in 1992s Kuffs. In 1993 Judd fought for and was cast in her first starring role playing the title character in Victor Nuñezs Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize Winning, Ruby in Paradise. She received rave reviews playing Ruby Lee Gissing, a young woman trying to make a new life for herself, and it was this performance that would launch her career as an actress. Oliver Stone, who had seen her in Nuñezs film, cast Judd in Natural Born Killers, but her scenes were later cut from the version of the film released theatrically. The following year she gained further critical acclaim for her role as Harvey Keitels estranged daughter in Wayne Wangs Smoke and also as Val Kilmers wife in Michael Manns Heat. That same year she also played the role of Callie in Philip Ridleys dark, adult fairy tale, The Passion of Darkly Noon. By the end of the 1990s, Judd had managed to achieve significant fame and success as a leading actress, after leading roles in several thrillers that performed well at the box office, including Kiss the Girls in 1997 and 1999s Double Jeopardy. Several of her early 2000s films, including 2001s Someone Like You and 2002s High Crimes, received only mixed reviews and moderate box office success;[8] although, she did receive positive recognition, and a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress, for her performance in the 2004 biography of Cole Porter, De-Lovely, opposite Kevin Kline. Judd is currently the magazine advertising "face" of American Beauty, an Estée Lauder cosmetic brand sold exclusively at Kohls department stores, and H. Stern jewelers. In June 2007, Goodys Family Clothing announced they were going to be releasing three fashion clothing lines with Judd in the Fall to be called - "AJ", "Love Ashley" and "Ashley Judd." Regarding the clothing line, Judd said, "Im thrilled to be involved in a clothing line that provides simple, lovely solutions for womens wardrobes. Ive always loved items that you can throw on easily and know that youll feel and look good. This line does just that, while keeping with the best of current styles and trends."[9] In December 1999, Judd became engaged to Scottish auto racer Dario Franchitti, who was at the time driving in Champ Car World Series (he has since raced in IndyCars and NASCAR). The two were married at Skibo Castle, near Dornoch, Scotland, on December 12, 2001. She and her husband divide their time between a home in Scotland and their farm outside Franklin, Tennessee. Although Judd is best known for regularly attending University of Kentucky basketball games (frequently sitting in the student section), she has also attended several Kentucky football games. Last year, Judd was a guest columnist for a local Kentucky newspaper, writing about the NCAA championships. She is frequently sought out for celebrity camera shots during televised games. Judd posed for a poster wearing only a hockey jersey for fund raising purposes for the University of Kentuckys hockey team. She is also an avid practitioner of yoga, cooking and gardening. In February 2006, Judd entered a program at Shades of Hope Treatment Center in Buffalo Gap, Texas and stayed for 47 days.[10] She was there because of personal issues, including depression and codependency.[11] A disagreement between Judd and Indy race car driver Milka Duno took place during the 2007 Indy Racing League season. After the final race of the 2007 season, the actress stated to the assembled news media, "I know this is not very sportsmanlike, but theyve got to get the 23 car (Duno) off the track. Its very dangerous. Im tired of holding my tongue. She shouldnt be out there. When a car is 10 miles (an hour) off the pace, its not appropriate to be racing. Peoples lives are at stake."[12] Judd was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky on May 9, 2009. In July 2009, Judd enrolled at Harvards John F. Kennedy School of Government in the Mid-Career Master in Public Administration (MC/MPA) program. On May 27, 2010, Judd received her degree.

Lively was born in Los Angeles to actors Ernie and Elaine Lively. She was raised as a Southern Baptist.[1] The youngest of five siblings,[2] Lively has a brother, Eric, two half-sisters, Lori and Robyn, and a half-brother, Jason. Both of her parents and all of her siblings are, or have been, in the entertainment industry.[3] During Livelys childhood, her parents would take her with them to acting classes that they taught because they didnt want to leave her with a babysitter.[3] Lively stated that watching her parents teach acting classes helped her learn the "drills" of acting and gain confidence as she got older.[2][3] Lively stated that as a child, her mother would bring her to Disneyland twice a week as an opportunity "to have some extra time to bond;" Lively stated that due to all the time she spent there, she felt that she "grew up at Disneyland."[2] Livelys mother, who was a former model from Georgia, inspired Lively to have an interest in clothes when she was a child.[4] During Livelys childhood, her mother would sew clothes and dress her with garments from boutiques and vintage stores. She also tailored adult clothes to fit her. Lively has stated, "She just did that because she was so creative and because she didnt want me to be dressed in big T-shirts cinched with a plastic clip like all the rest of the kids."[4] Lively has stated that, due to her wardrobe, when she attended a private school in Los Angeles in second grade for the first and only time in her life she did not fit in. "It was the only school where people were just downright mean to me [...] They would make fun of my clothes because I dressed differently than the other kids."[4] During Livelys childhood, she attended 13 different schools. When she was three years old, her mother enrolled her in the first grade because Livelys older brother was supposed to start school, but he didnt want to go alone. Her mother told the school Lively was six since she "was so tall".[2] After a few weeks, her teachers "said they would have to put me in mentally disabled classes because I wasnt up to pace with the rest of the kids," and they thought that she "was slow because all I wanted to do was sleep while the other kids were doing their projects." Shortly afterwards Livelys mother took her out of the school.[2] Lively attended Burbank High School in Burbank; while attending the school, Lively participated in Burbank High Schools show choir, In Sync, and was a cheerleader.[5] Lively had originally planned to attend Stanford University after finishing high school, before deciding to pursue an acting career.[3] When Blake was fifteen years old, her older brother Eric took her out of school for two months to go on a grand tour of Europe. While on the trip, Eric used most of the time trying to talk Lively into having an acting career.[3] Blake Lively was not at all interested in acting but during the summer between her junior and senior years, her brother, Eric, made his agent send her out on a few auditions over a period of a few months; of the few auditions, she got the role of Bridget for The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.[6] Lively filmed her scenes in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants between her junior and senior years at Burbank High.[6] In 2008, Lively stated that, while Stanford isnt in her immediate future due to her Gossip Girl filming commitment, she hasnt altogether put aside the idea of getting a college education.[6] She stated that attending Columbia University one day a week is a possibility and the option of being able to attend the school was a factor in accepting her role on Gossip Girl; however, she has not yet enrolled in any classes.[6] Lively began her acting career at age 11, when she appeared in the 1998 film Sandman, which was directed by Livelys father. Lively describes her role in the film as having been a "bit part".[7] After not having any involvement with acting for almost seven years, Lively appeared in the film adaptation of the novel of the same name, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants in 2005. Lively, appearing with America Ferrera, Amber Tamblyn and Alexis Bledel, played Bridget, one of the four female leads. Livelys performance in the film earned her a nomination for a Teen Choice Award for "Choice Movie Breakout - Female." With a box office revenue of $42 million, the film was Livelys biggest commercially successful film until it was out-grossed by its sequel.[8] In 2006, she co-starred with Justin Long in Accepted, and Lively, along with her older siblings Robyn, Ernie and Lori, had minor roles in the horror film, Simon Says. While Accepted wasnt well received by critics, Livelys performance was, earning her an award from Hollywood Life, in the category of Breakthrough Award. In 2007, Lively played one of the two title characters in Elvis and Anabelle as Anabelle, a bulimic girl who hoped to win a beauty pageant. Lively said of getting into character for the role that shed shed serious weight for her height. Lively recalled that: "Beauty queens are still very toned [...] So I lost weight, but I got toned. It was the healthiest I’ve ever been. I just made chicken breasts from Whole Foods on a George Foreman Grill, with asparagus and broccoli.”[9] Lively stated that that process was difficult for her because food is “the No. 1 love of my life.”[9] MovieLine.com praised her performance in the film and credited it as having been her "breakthrough role".[10] Lively was cast in the CWs series Gossip Girl which premiered in September 2007. She plays Serena van der Woodsen in the teen drama.[11] While rumors of infighting among the Gossip Girl co-stars have circulated in the tabloids, Lively denies that there is any unfriendly competition on-set. “The media is always trying to pit us against each other," she said, "I guess because it’s just not interesting to say, ‘Everyone gets along; everybody just works 18-hour days and goes home to sleep.’ That’s not fun to read, I guess.”[3] Her first magazine cover was the November 2007 issue of Cosmo Girl, where she discussed her time in high school and her career prior to Gossip Girl.[12] In 2008, Lively, along with Ferrera, Bledel and Tamblyn, reprised their roles in the 2008 sequel, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2. Similar to the first film, Lively, her three costars and the film were positively received by critics.[13][14] As of November 2009, the film had earned over $44 million at the box office, taking in slightly more that its predecessor and thus becoming Livelys most commercially successful film to date.[15] In 2009, Lively appeared as a minor role in the romantic comedy, consisting of an ensemble cast, New York, I Love You, a sequel to the 2006 film Paris, je taime. The ensemble cast included Shia LaBeouf, Natalie Portman, Hayden Christensen, Rachel Bilson, and Orlando Bloom. Similar to the films predecessor, the film is composed of short films along the theme of finding love.[16] Despite positive reception from critics, the film had a poor box office performance.[16][17] Livelys most acclaimed role to date is her supporting role as playing the younger version of the title character in The Private Lives of Pippa Lee (2009).[18] Paul Byrnes, of the BrisbaneTimes, described Livelys performance in the film as being "sensational".[19] The film, also starring Keanu Reeves, Winona Ryder and Robin Wright Penn, debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival and is scheduled to have a limited release in the United States on November 27.[20] In October, 2009, Lively began filming her scenes for her role as Krista Coughlin, in the up-coming 2010 The Town, based on Chuck Hogans novel Prince of Thieves.[21] In the film, Livelys role has been described as "the sister of Jem and Dougs ex-girlfriend who has a 19-month old daughter, Shyne."[22] The film, which also stars Ben Affleck, is currently in production and is set to be released on September 10, 2010. In an interview with Marie Claire, Lively stated that she wasnt relying on her career as an actress, having felt that having her own interior decorating firm would be a substitute as a back-up plan, having felt that because of her fascination with "colors and textures and layering things."[2][23] In January 2010 it was announced that Lively would be cast as Carol Ferris in the up-coming 2011 superhero film Green Lantern.[24]

Entrepreneurs, engineers and scientists worldwide are being offered US$1 million for developing a better way of cleaning up crude oil spills from oceans. The competition is being organized by the X Prize Foundation, and it will run for one year. Wendy Schmidt, wife of Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) CEO Eric Schmidt, personally put up $1.4 million for the prize purse. The winner will get 41 million; the runner-up will get $300,000; and the second runner-up the remaining $100,000. Details of the Challenge The challenge, known as the "Wendy Schmidt Oil Cleanup X Challenge," is the latest in a series of so-called X Challenges launched by the X Prize Foundation. "We need to come up with better solutions to capture oil on the surface, to minimize the harm these spills are causing to marine life, coastal wetlands and beaches, and to our livelihoods -- a harm that can last for generations," Schmidt stated. The challenge has two phases. Phase One runs from August 2010 to April 2011. During this period, teams from around the world can register and submit their solutions to clean up oil slicks crated by spills or leaks from ships or tankers, drainage, waste disposal or oil platform spills. A team of judges from industry and academia will evaluate the proposals and pick up to 10 of the best solutions. In the second phase, the teams have to compete head to head to demonstrate their solutions ability to clean up oil on the ocean surface. These tests will be held at the National Oil Spill Response Research & Renewable Energy Test Facility (OHMSETT) in New Jersey. The top three solutions will be awarded the prize money. Other details of the competition have yet to be worked out. "The judges have not yet been selected, and the number is still unknown at this point," Valerie Arias, a spokesperson for the X Prize Foundation, told TechNewsWorld. OHMSETT, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, is located an hour south of New York, in Leonardo, NJ. It is the only facility where full-scale oil spill response equipment testing, research and training can be conducted hands-on in an environmentally safe manner. Potential Players Fridays announcement of the X Challenge by the X Foundation appears to have been the culmination of a low-key campaign to test out its potential success. "Since early July, we have been considering this opportunity and soliciting input and feedback," Arias said. The FAQ page for the challenge indicates the foundation has received more than 1,000 emails over the past month from interested individuals and companies. Any corporate entity, whether a for- or non-profit, can participate in the challenge. Universities and communities can form corporate entities which can then register to compete. Only government entities are not eligible. The foundation estimates that between 75 and 100 teams will register to participate. It hopes the challenge will stimulate further research into oil spill cleanup. The foundation has attracted donations from other charitable and philanthropic organizations for related work. "We have attracted donations for other ocean-related clean-up research such as our Ocean Plastics Prize, which is still in development," Arias said.

The 37-year-old champion batsman, who holds almost every batting record that is there in international cricket, overtook retired former Australian captain Steve Waugh when he played in the 169th match of his career. Tendulkar, who has been around for two decades now, has also played 442 one-day internationals, just a couple of matches less than Sri Lankan Sanath Jayasuriyas record of 444. Tendulkar has scored 13,742 runs in 168 Tests at an average of 56.08, notching up 48 hundreds and 55 half-centuries in the process. He has 17,598 runs, including 46 centuries, in his 442 one-dayers. The Mumbaikar also holds the distinction of being the first batsman to score a double hundred in ODIs. But despite these astonishing feats, Tendulkar remains hungry for more runs and after getting his fifth Test double hundred in the second Test against Sri Lanka, the diminutive batsman urged critics to stop talking about his age.The 37-year-old champion batsman, who holds almost every batting record that is there in international cricket, overtook retired former Australian captain Steve Waugh when he played in the 169th match of his career. But despite these astonishing feats, Tendulkar remains hungry for more runs and after getting his fifth Test double hundred in the second Test against Sri Lanka, the diminutive batsman urged critics to stop talking about his age.v"As long as you are mentally strong and prepared to go through the grind, age really does not matter," Tendulkar said after the drawn Test here. "I think everyone should just stop talking about the age factor. If I can score a double hundred at 37, I dont think age really matters." Most capped Test players so far: 169 - Sachin Tendulkar (IND) 168 - Steve Waugh (AUS) - retired 156 - Allan Border (AUS) - retired 146 - Ricky Ponting (AUS) 145 - Shane Warne (AUS) - retired 141 - Rahul Dravid (IND) 140 - Jacques Kallis (RSA) 134 - Mark Boucher (RSA) Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, VVS Laxman and Murali Vijay were batting in the nets as Tendulkar padded up, checked his bats and waited for his turn. He spent a few moments with skipper MS Dhoni discussing the finer points while watching them bat. Tendulkar first faced throw-downs before switching to face the main Indian bowlers. There was nothing to suggest that Tendulkar was overtly edgy ahead of Test number 169. On Tuesday, when the third Test starts at the P Sara Oval, Tendulkar will go ahead of former Australian skipper Steve Waugh and become the most capped player. The pressure of expectations, be it as a 16-year-old who made his debut at the National Stadium, Karachi, or a 37-year-old senior statesman, probably remains the same. Tendulkar recalls his first Test innings, in which he made 15 in 24 balls before being bowled by another debutante Waqar Younis, saying it was a testing time but one during which he learnt the ropes of international cricket. "After I played my first Test match I felt like it would be my first and last Test," Tendulkar told The Indian Express. "I wasnt sure if I would get a game again or play for India again. Thats how I felt back then. It felt like I didnt really belong there and it wasnt easy. Luckily for me I got some runs (59 & 8; Faisalabad) in the next game and then I was more confident and felt better. "That was a long time ago, looking back now. But those early days were a learning experience. It is wonderful now that I have the opportunity to become the highest- capped player," Tendulkar said after the practice session. He also confirmed that his groin, which was strained and saw him not fielding on the last day of the second Test, was coming along well. "My groin is fine now and I am feeling good." In a long-list of achievements for the man, who owns almost every possible batting record, this milestone is yet another testimony to his longevity and undying passion. The journey has taken a toll on his body, no doubt, but Tendulkar has always managed to overcome the injuries and his hunger for runs remains insatiable. Since the start of last year, Tendulkar has scored seven centuries in Tests. At the Sinhalese Sports Club he made 203 -- his first double hundred in six years, an innings which lasted a gruelling 516 minutes. Hes also been in imperious form in the shorter formats. He made the first-ever double hundred in one-day internationals in February against South Africa and in November last year, he scored 175 against Australia, two of his top-three ODI scores. Tendulkar has been rested as a precautionary measure for the tri-series in Dambulla from August 10, but come the third Test and once again the burden of holding together the Indian innings will fall on him. These days most coaches and captains are asked about their plans to stop Virender Sehwag from massacring their bowlers. Such questions regarding Tendulkar are few and far between now. In his 168 Tests, Tendulkar has largely made a mockery of well-set plans.

The terms almost seemed like friendly advice to us, caught up as we are in our self-indulgent hectic lifestyles. In the hustle and bustle, the very purpose of life is often pushed into oblivion. We are all the time chasing targets, meeting deadlines, competing, climbing, running, and getting exhausted. Do our trajectories have a central idea or purpose? We could look to an interesting parallel in music. During the process of fine-tuning a musical instrument like the sitar, it is absolutely important that the strings are tuned keeping the naad or the sound of a single string called the “Jod ka taar” as the anchor. This string is tuned to note shadj or sa and the rest of the strings are beautifully blended to its sound such that it evokes harmonious music. Perfectly tuned strings then create different raagas. Inlife, too, we are all operating to different vibrations evoking very distinct emotions. Sometimes states in life are as vibrant as a raag Basant, melancholic as raag Bhairavi, intense as raag Darbari, heroic as raag Sohini, vigorous as raag Hamir, simple as raag Yaman, or complex as raag Puriya Dhanyashri. Nevertheless the effect of the combination of swaras captures the mind and this melodic output draws out the senses to a state of meditative contemplation. Just like each stage in our life evokes diverse experiences, every raag has a very unique effect on listeners. The artiste, submerging himself in the melody, transports his audience to share the same experience. Thoughts merge and are in sync with the rhythm and music thus taking it far away from the challenges and stress of day-to-day life. The magical outcome is the result of fine-tuning to a basic sur whose sound blends with our mind. When we adopt this method of fine-tuning to living, anchoring our lifestyles around our core values, not falling prey to herd instinct, it will definitely keep our thoughts anchored, focused and disciplined. It gives you a unique identity and more importantly peace of mind that you are on a path that you wish to embark on. Again, the basic sur here is the focus point, the base or the foundation. It only provides the silent support or the harmony but at the same time, it is the sound that amalgamates all the sounds of the strings and the tones of various raags so that melodious music is created. In this entire process there is also embedded a deep philosophy. The creative rendering of the various ragas happens on the Baaj ka Taar, the first string, while the Jod Ka Taar, the second string gives the continuity. When the artiste very aptly uses the support of this silent string while his fingers move with practised dexterity in the first string the result is pure melody or naad. In the hectic pace of life it is imperative that we get acquainted with the silent Jod ka Taar and always stay in tune with its silent presence. But that will happen only when we stop, rest and revive ourselves in the journey of life!
