After Pakistan, Bangladesh Bans Facebook Over Prophet Cartoons

After Pakistan, Bangladesh has now blocked social networking site Facebook for hosting pages featuring blasphemous caricatures of Prophet Mohammad and "obnoxious" images of the countrys leaders. No official announcement was made yet on the decision but the Daily Star newspaper quoted an unnamed Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission official as saying that "part of the reason (of blocking the network) is the posting of some anti-religious and porn links by users across the globe". "We have blocked all access to Facebook temporarily... It was done in line with a decision of government high-ups," the official said, adding some users had posted anti-Islamic content about Prophet Mohammad, which the government took seriously. Earlier, the state-run BSS news agency yesterday said that the BTRC action came hours after elite anti-crime Rapid Action Battalion troops arrested a "cyber criminal" in the city on charges of posting "objectionable, disfigured and satirical photographs" of several government leaders using different accounts. Leaders of several right-wing Islamic groups have demanded a ban on the networking website for posting of materials hurting Muslim religious sentiments. Users suddenly were barred from logging into the network since 6.30 p.m.last evening while in a late-night development a group of Dhaka University students took to the streets to protest the governments decision. The protesters dubbed the move radical and said the government should have blocked individual profiles rather than the entire site. Pakistan has also banned Facebook over a page featuring a contest for "blasphemous" cartoons of Prophet. According to a report, BTRC earlier directed internet data service handlers Mango Telecom and Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Ltd to find a way to block antisocial contents posted by Facebookers. But the two companies failed to fix the problem, which prompted the government to block the entire network. "The access to Facebook will resume when the operators find a way to block such anti-social contents," the report said quoting an official. In March last year, the government blocked the video sharing website YouTube for hosting a recorded conversation between the prime minister and army officers after the BDR carnage. More than 10 lakh people use the internet in Bangladesh. Islam strictly prohibits the depiction of any prophet as blasphemous and the row sparked comparison with protests across the Muslim world over the publication of satirical cartoons of Mohammad in European newspapers in 2006.

Sabkush Lifestyle News: 5 best positions to get pregnant fast.

Sabkush Lifestyle News: 5 best positions to get pregnant fast.5 best positions to get pregnant fast

In some cases, as when nature needs a boost, a little push from you and your partner can go a long way in getting pregnant. When it comes to the best position to get pregnant, the general rule is that the male sperm must be deposited as near to the female cervix as possible. This has something to do with the life spans of the female egg and the male sperm. Once an egg is released from the ovary – a stage also known as ovulation – it begins its path down the fallopian tube to the uterus. A released egg typically survives for only 24 hours, while a sperm can last anywhere from three to five days in the female body. As such, the egg has to be as close to the egg as possible so they can meet and join before the egg dies. While not a lot of people will agree that the sexual positions have anything to do with getting pregnant, the logical inference is that it makes sense to assume the position that can help the sperm meet the egg in the shortest possible time. This is especially true when for couples who have problems or difficulty conceiving. Having said this, the first "best position to get pregnant" tip is to avoid positions that least expose the cervix to the male sperm, and that generally defy gravity such as sex while standing up, sitting down, or with the woman on top. When trying to conceive, it is best to limit the amount of sperm that flows back out of the vagina. The womans hips should also be positioned in such a way that the sperm released is kept inside, giving it enough time to swim up to the female cervix. Consider the following positions instead: 1. The missionary position. Or man-on-top is said to be the position thats best for getting pregnant. This is because this particular position allows for the deepest possible penetration, making it possible for the sperm to get deposited closest to the cervix. 2. Raise the hips. Elevating the hips, which can be done by placing a pillow behind her, can also be helpful because this exposes the female cervix to as much semen as the male can release. 3. Doggy-style. The rear-entry position where the man enters the woman from behind is also a recommended position. In this position, sperm is also deposited closest to the cervix, thereby helping increase the chances of conception. 4. Side-by-side. You can also try having intercourse while lying side by side. This position likewise causes the most exposure of the cervix to the male sperm. 5. Orgasms. Finally, while this has nothing to do with sexual positions, there are also researches that suggest the importance of the female orgasm in conceiving. According to studies, female orgasm leads to contractions that could push sperm up into the cervix. The lesson: have fun while trying to conceive.

Indian Music composers, Salim and Sulaiman Merchant, who collaborated with South African singers Loyiso Bala and Eric Wainaina to record the anthem for FIFA World Cup 2010, will perform at the opening and closing ceremonies of the football event. "Its definitely an honour to get the opportunity to perform at such a huge platform. In fact, besides this anthem, we are also going to sing our song Shukran allah from Kurbaan with Loyiso and Eric. Music knows no boundaries," said a delighted Salim. Later the duo will also perform for the fund raising concert for Nelson Mandela Foundation, a trust that is actively working towards providing medical assistance for corrective surgery of cleft lip and palate. The opening ceremony of the football World Cup will be held June 10 at Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Sabkush Entertainment: Shillong keeps date with Bob DylanShillong keeps date with Bob Dylan

Shillong, perhaps, is the only city in the country celebrating Bob Dylans birthday without a break for the past 39 years. And today, it was no different here. Hundreds of fans of the philosopher-musician, some from as far as Hyderabad, Goa, Bangalore, Kolkata and the neighbouring Guwahati descended in this music-savvy city and went agog with the 69th birthday celebrations of the legendary singer. Shillongs very own Bob Dylan, Lou Majaw and his colleagues rendered haunting Dylan numbers at two venues at Pearly Dew School in the morning and at Khyndailad at the heart of the city in the evening. The programmes showcased Dylans songs and the artists own compositions. Among the bands that performed, was a curiously named band called Bad Monkeys.

Sabkush Lifestyle News: Find the right outfit for a party.

Sabkush Lifestyle News: Find the right outfit for a party.Find the right outfit for a party

Parties have always given many young women sleepless nights. It’s the night you can wear what you wish for without worrying about it being too daring. As you scour through stores you are on the lookout for something that’s very ‘you’, that everyone else won’t be wearing and you can make a big impression without needing to shout. Here are some ideas you can try on for size: Sexy little kitten: That’s what you’ll look like in the little black dress or LBD. A stunner since the 80s till now, the LBD manages to make many heads turn. Available in various styles from a body hugging lycra fit to the classic black slip to a slightly bouncy skirt with a fitted top - the form has always known to favour a woman’s body. If you wish to heighten your glory, go for the strapless variety. Let a tight yet comfortable elastic rest on your bosom and hug your body all the way to your knees. Add a stylish belt to accentuate a slim waist and a bright faux fur stole to feel like Marilyn Monroe. As it ends just a little above the knees, bring the attention to your calves by wearing skyhigh stilettos. Subtle earrings and slim bracelets make you glow even further! Style diva: If you want to look and feel desirable and irresistible, cocktail dresses and gowns are your bet. From halter necks to off shoulders to the hottest toga-style, this outfit is sure to enhance your assets to the T. Choose colours that add to your personality like hot pink, psychedelic blue, wine red and emerald green – avoid black as it is one of the most common colours for a dress. You have the option of leaving your hair loose around your shoulders or ‘create’ an updo and leave a few tassels loose for that demure look. Tigress on the prowl: Bring on the stares with this combination of tights and a knit top. A no-fuss ensemble, it makes you feel confident and tall. Go for dark colour tights and similar colour knit top to appear slim. Team this off with a either a smart cloak or a poncho, depending on how cold it is! You can alternate the knit top with a long pullover which can be belted in the middle. Bring on some bling by wearing a chunky neckpiece and a sexy shiny belt, avoid the earrings completely. Add to this a stunning pair of suede knee-high boots and you are ready to rock any party! Denim babe: If you are in a casual mood, bring out a sexy, slim- fitting jean. Depending on the weather, you can either wear a fitting polo or cowl neck pullover preferably in a dark colour, or a classic white shirt. Accessorise with a sexy red scarf which you can wrap around your slim neck; junk jewellery or chunky silver jewellery will do the trick. Carry a black/ dark brown jacket for the formal touch in suede or leather. Wear either boots or stilettos and a sexy attitude with an otherwise quiet ensemble! Va-va-voom: How about wearing a long overcoat with a micromini and tank top underneath? Wear it only if you have the attitude for it. Watch men sweat it out as you sizzle on the dance floor. Leave a few buttons undone to show a tantalizing hint of bare skin. This one needs no jewellery - only a sexy perfume and sexier boots!

Sabkush Lifestyle News: How to be a society bee .How to be a society bee

Being a party pro is an art. The charm, grace and mannerisms of a society diva... All comes from within. That’s the reason why some blend in easily and manage to make an impact, while others stand out because they try too hard to look cool. Thankfully, mingling with the sequinned crowd isn’t difficult, once you master the moves. Just arm yourself with these tricks and make a splash at the next champagne brunch you attend: Mindset “Just remember that we go to a party to relax and have fun,” says model-turned-choreographer Achla Sachdev. “Enjoy the energy and don’t be intimidated.” Socialite Esther Daswani agrees, “People don’t look or think about us, as much as we think they do. Realise that, and you will become comfortable.” Makeup Do up your face a bit, but not too much. “Highlight your best assets and dab on some moisturiser,” advices Achla. “Take care of your hair. If you don’t have time to hit the salon, then at least comb it neatly. While tying hair up at work is ok, for evenings, leave it open.” Forgo the deodorant in favour of a perfume, and make sure all that make-up is non-transferable — you don’t want to leave stains on people and crockery, right? Clothes When it comes to clothes, there are multiple opinions. While restaurateur Kishen Mulchandani says, “Less is better. Pile on the baubles and the brands, even if they are fake,” Achla suggests wearing something that may not be expensive, but is appropriate and neat. If you own a label, don it by all means — but don’t wear a Shahab Durazi worksuit to dinner; wear that nice Mango dress instead. Esther says, “I would be highly impressed by a person who bought a two-rupee flower and twined it interestingly into a necklace, than someone who holds a million-rupee bag clunkily.” Also, a little bling wouldn’t hurt. But don’t forget the golden rule: No label is better than the ‘Pradda’ and ‘Guci’ picked up from random shops. Meet-N-Greet Once at the party, don’t hover shyly at the door. Locate the host-hostess and head over to say hello. “If you don’t know them very well, shake hands,” opines Achla. “If they lean to give you a kiss, place your hands gently on their shoulders, touch cheek-to-cheek, and kiss lightly in the air. Do not pat them on the back or butt, and don’t hug, unless you are really old friends.” Opening conversation with phrases such as: ‘How kind of you to invite me’ or ‘You have a lovely home’ work well. Mingle After the initial hellos, move on to people you have been introduced to, or your friends. Don’t head straight to the bar. When you do, get a drink you can hold, recommends Achla. If you are a teetotaller, just quietly nurse a glass of orange juice or plain water. Conversation Here’s Kishen’s take on what to talk about: “Keep in the mind the news from the past few party papers, and throw names of people you met earlier. Make sure the people you are talking about are not within hearing range.” He also suggests talking about the Pilates or power yoga routine you are following. “Just throw loads of attitude and you will emerge a winner,” he claims. But Achla plays it safe. “If you’d like to interact with the guests later, tell them you’ve enjoyed talking to them and offer your business card. If they feel the same, they’ll exchange theirs as well.”

Sabkush Headlines: Googles primer on how it helps the economyGoogles primer on how it helps the economy

Suzanne Golter of Happy Hound, flanked by David Crane, a special advisor to California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (left) and Googles Dennis Woodside, explains how AdWords helped build her business. OAKLAND, Calif.--Everyone knows that Google is the richest Internet company of our time. But Google doesnt think people know enough about the impact its services have on the broader economy. In an effort to shine a brighter light on its economic contributions, Google held a series of press conferences around the country Tuesday highlighting the impact that AdWords, AdSense, and Google nonprofit grants have on the small business community. The events accompanied the release of a report claiming that Google advertisers generated $54 billion in U.S. economic activity during 2009, and that doesnt even count the taxes that co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page will inject into state and federal coffers over the next five years as they sell off stock. A public relations stunt? Of course: Googles California event was held against the loud backdrop of the Happy Hound dog day care center in West Oakland, in what had to be the worst-smelling press conference venue this side of the press room at the Consumer Electronics Show. But the impact that AdWords and AdSense have had on small businesses is clear, even if the $54 billion number itself is designed to shock and awe. Suzanne Golter, founder and manager of Happy Hound, has been an evangelist for Googles AdWords program for years. When she first started advertising with AdWords she was spending thousands of dollars a month to place ads alongside search results for "doggie day care Oakland." It took a while for the ads to have an effect, but they always paid for themselves in terms of leads generated by the ads, and eventually started to produce a much bigger return to the point where she had to advertise less because she was having to turn away business, she said.

Sabkush Headlines: Pssst... secret?

Sabkush Headlines: Pssst... secret?Pssst... secret?

Some secrets are best kept hidden. But, if they ever tumble out of the closet, it’s important to deal with them. In the wake of Om Puri’s wife’s startling revelations, Kalpana Sharma explores forbidden realms Did they, didn’t they...? The world is still trying to figure out what really went on between India’s first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Edwina, the wife of India’s last viceroy Lord Mountbatten. Their “affair” is still providing grist to the rumour mills. Another ‘dark secret’ that recently tumbled out was about Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie, who according to her biographer, slept with her mother’s boyfriend at the age of 16. Some dark secrets are best kept hidden, but there are people who choose to go public with their own private demons. Comments adman Prahlad Kakkar, “We have seen many people, who reach an age and stage when they’re not scared of being judged by society and willingly share their experiences.” Celina Jaitley, for instance, revealed her heartache at finding out that the first man she fell in love with was gay. She says, “The incident was known only to those closest to me. I shared it with the world to help the gay community. I feel strongly for them.” She rose from being a victim to emerging as a vocal supporter of the cause of gay rights. However, not everybody remains unscathed after a secret, away from prying eyes for years, is suddenly uncovered. Recently, actor Om Puri’s wife revealed a very private sexual past of the actor in her biography. A livid Puri reacted, “I shared something beautiful with my maid Shanti, which I confided to my wife, since I wanted to be honest with her. Not because she could talk about it in her biography.” At this, Nandita defended herself, “I am sure such incidents happen with lots of men who don’t normally want to talk about their past. But being a journalist I wanted to present a true picture to the world.” All’s fair in love and literature! The late Princess Diana would have known, as she had her biographer and ex-lovers regularly air intimate details about her life. Says psychologist Varsha Pathak, “It’s incorrect to reveal personal details shared in confidence. Everyone in this world has the right to their deep, dark secrets. We all have them, but we don’t share them for the fear of tarnishing our images. We all have pleasant and unpleasant experiences in life. Sometimes, we should just let them be.” Explains psychologist Seema Hingorrany, “Everyone has a part of their life that is untouched by anyone. It’s sometimes because you don’t want to confront an unresolved conflict or because you’re worried or ashamed of the world finding out. However, sometimes confidences are triggered to get emotional relief.” Kakkar adds, “Leave aside a wife writing about her man’s personal life. Today, ex-lovers, nannies, therapists, drivers, everyone wants to write about celebrities. This is equivalent to crime and is an invasion of privacy. Someone once said that if you are a celebrity, nothing is personal and your life belongs to the public. I totally rubbish this claim.” A celebrity’s inner circle is often their inner sanctuary with only a handful of people privy to what goes on in the ‘real’ world. And then there are their secrets. One that still has the capacity to make headlines is that of actors Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha. Says Susmita Dasgupta, who did her PhD on Bachchan and is now working on his biography, “At one point, I thought Amitabh, like any honest man, would have married Rekha if he truly loved her. But men often don’t work that way. Men can be very sincere and honest with women they never intend marrying. The background from which Amitabh came, monogamy had a certain value and this stood in his way. For Amitabh, the affair meant infidelity and so he always had a tendency to push the affair under the carpet.”

Sabkush Headlines: Air India Cancels 76 FlightsAir India Cancels 76 Flights

Air India has cancelled 76 domestic and international flights scheduled for Wednesday on its network in the wake of strike by 20,000 employees of the national carrier who are protesting against airline managements gag order. "We have cancelled a total of 76 flights scheduled to be operated on domestic as well as international sectors from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Bangalore on May 26," an airline official said. The airline has decided to cancel these flights after reviewing the situation of the availability of the executive engineers, who are not part of the employees unions. No flight could be operated until it is certified by an aircraft engineer. Since the number of executive engineers are less so Air India decided to cancel these 76 flights, said the official. The national carrier has cancelled 24 of its flights from Delhi, 37 from Mumbai, six from Kolkata, seven from Chennai and two from Bangalore. The flights that are cancelled from Delhi on Wednesday include: IC 134 to Mumbai via Bhopal-Indore, IC 409 and IC 415 to Patna, IC 411 and IC 811 to Lucknow, IC 413 and IC 813 to Kathmandu, IC 445 to Ludhiana, IC 471 to Mumbai via Jodhpur -Udaipur. AI 480 to Singapore, AI 638 to Amritsar, AI 747 and IC 895 to Dubai, IC 817 and IC 861 to Ahmedabad, IC 821 to Jammu-Srinagar, AI 841 to Abu Dhabi, IC 849 to Pune, AI 853 to Bangkok, IC 864 to Chandigarh, IC 869 to Raipur-Nagpur, IC 885 to Muscut, IC 889 to Guawahati-Imphal and IC 896 to Jaipur. From Mumbai three flights to Ahmedabad; six to Delhi, four to Chennai, two each to Bangalore, Goa, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Muscut and Cochin, and one each to Bangkok, Dubai, Singapore, Abu Dhabi, Kozikode, Aurangabad, Lucknow, Varanasi, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Jaipur, Raipur, Bhubaneshwar, Udaipur and Jodhpur were also cancelled. National carrier has cancelled its six flights from Kolkata to Agartala, Bagdogra, Silchar, Dibrugarh, Imphal and Port Blair, while seven flights from Chennai to Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Mumbai, Coimbatore, Bhubaneshwar, Bangalore-Cochin, and Bangalore-Trivandrum. Two flights from Bangalore to Mumbai and Male in Maldives were also cancelled, the official said. Yesterday, over 20,000 employees went on a flash strike to protest Air Indias gag order that hit flight operations. Management has threatened stern action including termination of service if the agitation continued. Meanwhile, striking a conciliatory tone, agitating Air India unions on Wednesday decided to hold talks with the management over the gag order issue. "We have been invited by the management for talks and we are going to attend it. We will also meet the Chief Labour Commissioner and place our demands," Air Corporation Employees Union (ACEU) General Secretary J B Kadian told PTI here. Over 20,000 employees, including engineers, went on a nationwide flash strike to protest Air Indias gag order -- a circular prohibiting union leaders from going public with their demands. With the striking employees unrelenting on their demand for withdrawal of the gag order and the show cause notices to union leaders, the AI management toughened its stand late last night threatening to even terminate service of the employees if they did not call off the stir.

Sabkush Lifestyle News: Wanted: Married men! .

Sabkush Lifestyle News: Wanted: Married men! .Wanted: Married men!

Remember Woody Allen’s Match Point where single woman (Scarlett Johansson) is pursued relentlessly by a married man and later dumped, even killed, when she coaxes him to be with her, baring the thin line between love and lust! The single woman-married man trajectory has been explored on reel and in real life, like a sexy Barbara Mori playing the third angle in the Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan and Susanne Roshan love story or Sushmita Sen falling for Vikram Bhatt, now her ex. Actress Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar’s love story too started when the lyricist was married to another, as it did for Sridevi and Boney Kapoor, and Sarika and ex-husband Kamal Hassan, besides Hollywood sweethearts Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. A married man confesses, “Why is it that when we are taken, we get a lot more attention from single women than ever before?” Stand-up comedian and actor Vir Das explains, “Women view men as projects. In the case of married men, half the work has been done and single women can reap the benefits.” Is it also about the forbidden fruit being sweeter? Says actress Pooja Bedi, “It’s the excitement of the chase. A married man doesn’t require any hand-holding. But it could be disastrous for both the people involved.” Agrees psychologist Varsha Pathak, “A married man can provide a secure environment. He knows the entire mathematics of settling down.” Reema (name changed), who’s dating a married man shares, “Single guys expect too much. I have a hectic work schedule... A married man is more understanding.” Adds Kakkar, “Single women prefer a happily married man so they can reap all benefits without any effort” And it’s not only the women who seek such an alliance, it’s the married men too. Jokes adman Prahlad Kakkar, “Married men feel grateful when single women reciprocate their advances, unlike a single man who takes this attention for granted. And since he has reached a certain position in life, he can afford to be generous.” Explains psychologist Seema Hingorrany, “Married men seek single women due to plain boredom or incompatibility in their marriage. It’s not always about sex. They may be getting no appreciation in a marriage and seek approval in clandestine flings. It happens with married women too.” Confesses Kshitij (name changed), “I have been married for eight years and feel unloved. My wife is way too occupied with her job to even notice. My affair gives me the sanity to stay in my marriage.” But the havoc that such relations can create is not something that can be overlooked. Boney Kapoor’s ex-wife Mona, who was still married to him when he started dating Sridevi, said about their separation, “Had I not separated from Boney, the pain would have affected my entire being and manifested itself in negativity and health problems. It was a harrowing situation. I needed time to lick my wounds, to air them and let the feelings ebb. But now, I have moved on in life.”

Sabkush Entertainment: Review: Shrek Forever After

Sabkush Entertainment: Review: Shrek Forever AfterReview: Shrek Forever After

All along, the Shrek series has shrewdly played to children as well as their popcorn-buying parents. For the under-10 crowd, there’s a chorus of burps and farts; and for the grown-ups, there’s arch pop culture references and a hipster-friendly soundtrack (the original film included John Cale’s gorgeous version of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah). Embedded in the silly anarchy of skewered fairy tales are adult-approved morals about loyalty, commitment and beauty coming from within. So far, it’s been a win-win, blockbuster formula: plenty of gross-out gags for the kiddies, a smidge of substance for their folks. But in Shrek Forever After, the fourth and final adventure of the trumpet-eared ogre (voiced as always by Mike Myers with a Scottish brogue), franchise fatigue has set in. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the swamp where Shrek and Fiona (Cameron Diaz) have set up housekeeping with their baby triplets. Each day is the same grind of domestic chores, diaper changes and fending off throngs of tourists who want a snapshot of their hero. Even Shrek’s soothing nightly martini (garnished with an eyeball) is interrupted by the demands of family life and drop-ins by sidekicks Donkey (Eddie Murphy) and Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas). Before long, Shrek is wallowing in a midlife funk. He’s a monster emasculated by marriage and fatherhood. But who wants to watch a flatulent ogre kvetch about lost opportunities and wonder where his passion went, like some big green Greenberg? All that monotony gets monotonous until Shrek blows his stack at his childrens’ first birthday party, smashing a cake and storming out to sulk in the forest. The fun finally starts when Shrek meets Rumpelstiltskin (Walt Dohrn), a pint-sized conniver, who nearly became the king of Far Far Away when Fiona’s parents asked him to break her curse. But before that could happen, Shrek and Fiona fell in love, thwarting Rumpelstiltskin’s evil plans.

Radhika Pandit is also eagerly awaiting the release Gaaja Bajaana, where Tarun is her co-star. While Krishnan Love Story, which is creating a lot of buzz, is directed by Shashank, Gaaja Bajaana is directed by Prashanth Raj. Throwing light on her characters in these films, Radhika Pandit said that her roles in these two films are miles apart. About Krishnan Love Story she said: I have an interesting role in this film. I play the role of a slum girl which has given me lot of scope to perform." "My attitude in real life is somewhat reflected in the film, as I am always talking non-stop in this film. Shashank is a very good director who gives his heroines ample opportunity to perform." Radhika decribes Gaaja Bajaana director, Prashanth Raj, as a "super cool" director who tries to convey all his ideas through discussions and tries to get the best out of all his artists and technicians. "Prashanth is a man with lot of ideas. He sticks to his script and ideas and wants the film to be entertaining and at the same time natural and straight forward," Radhika said. Gaaja Bajaana is essentially a fun film. Frankly, we had so much fun on the sets during the making of the film that I am sure the audience would be in splits watching this film," Radhika said. Talking about her work, she said: "I have not taken any training in acting, but somehow I am getting good, challenging roles that I can portray well. I think I am lucky in that respect." She has started shooting for Adhdhoori being directed by Arjun. In this film, Radhika is paired with Dhruva. Another film she has signed is to be produced by K. Manju which has Diganth in the leading role and is directed by Adarsha. "The last year has been an active year for me. I got the opportunity to work in two good films - Love Guru and Olave Jeevana Lekkachara. Hopefully I will continue my good journey this year also," said Radhika.

Sabkush Lifestyle News: Do you own an Ahimsa sari? .Do you own an Ahimsa sari?

From flying planes, scripting TV & Radio programs to weaving short stories and then getting on to another kind of weaving...this time of saris, life gave quiet a chances to experiment with, to 72 years old Usha Raghunathan. And must say, the woman took every chance in her stride and proved herself! “Every time life threw a circumstance at me, I tried to achieve something out of it, which I managed to,” says a satisfied Usha in a telephonic interview. Here are a few excerpts... You are a multi-talented being. Tell us something about the transition from being the first woman pilot of South India to writer and finally to designer.... I have had a very tough time as a child. I lost my mother when I was very young. So, I lived with my grand parents in Chennai. My father worked in the Air Force Civil Aviation department; I used to visit him during vacations. The runway was very close to our home and thanks to the not-so-stringent security in those days, we used to go walking on the runway and that’s how I got inclined towards flying. From the very beginning I was independent enough to experiment with things. Once I became a pilot, I was asked to write about my experience. Like that, my writing got appreciated and soon I found myself writing columns in newspapers and short stories. It was after my daughter was born, that I was exposed to TV, where I compered a few TV shows and scripted shows for AIR. Designing came quite late in the picture. In fact, I had no knowledge about designing apart from knowing the colours. However, I used to design for my teenage daughters, which were appreciated by her friends. But it was my daughter-in-law, who wanted me to do something exciting. It began 27 years ago, when I organized a coffee morning at my place, to show a collection of saris that I brought from a shop called Urvashi, which was a big brand in Chennai. My selection got thumbs up, and soon I took over Urvashi and that’s how I got into business. How did you move ahead? Since, I am a connoisseur of traditional saris; I met weavers from places like Kanchipuram, Aarni. Raasipuram and explained them my design sense. Gave them the colour combinations and the border patterns and got the kind of designs I wanted. Then on, I began working on my brand titled USHAS. What’s the inspiration behind your designs? Anything that’s traditional, old and rich in appeal. I always got attracted to designs worn by my great grand mother. What have been some of your ‘hot’ selling designs? A collection, where I reproduced the saris worn long ago by the renowned classical dancer Rukmini Devi Arundale of Chennai sold like hot cakes. Also, the reproduction of saris worn by characters in artist Ravi Varma’s paintings got very popular. I collected all the paintings and replicated them into my creation of saris. Even today people ask for those designs.
Lingerie fad: We like it hot!

We need to accept that it was the West which brought some good women’s lingerie to India. And thus, an indo-western slant to lingerie fashion would not be out of place. I believe the future will be promising for global trends in the advancement of women’s lingerie defined sheerly by what women truly want. Every culture has a unique perspective of intimate apparel reflective of religion, morals, natural recourses, technology, and this also states a woman’s position in society. The term ‘Lingerie’ was first used in the 1920’s with the goals of early lingerie to eliminate a woman’s curves rather than accentuate them. Womanly curves returned in the 1930’s through the technological advancement of man-made fabrics resulting in nylon and elasticised fabrics. The influence of World War II brought the silhouette of the ‘bullet bra’ that lifted and separated the bust. Finally, the advertising and marketing of womens lingerie broke the barrier of public approval. Since the 1940’s, technology in intimate apparel has delivered women’s needs for function, comfort, and fashion. Mouldable fabrics and foam pads have become commonplace, while seamless technology has replaced sewing. Now, the miracle of bras is not limited to push up pads. Perhaps the biggest marvel is that we continue to try to increase the size of the bust with less fabric to cover it. The future holds the promise of more functional lingerie that is unique to each persons needs. But the common thread that will always appeal to women is not just driven by technology, it is also driven by desire to feel pretty, beautiful, and glamourous, without sacrificing on comfort. The author is the Design Director of Secret Curves, New York.

Sabkush Headlines: Raise your erotic capital!

Sabkush Headlines: Raise your erotic capital!Raise your erotic capital!

Do you wonder why some co-workers steal all attention and promotions despite being minimally talented? The reason could be their erotic capital, says Kalpana Sharma Angelina Jolie has it, so does Carla Bruni. Closer home Sushmita Sen, Preity Zinta and Lara Dutta have it among others. Ever thought what makes them stand apart? Well, it’s their ‘erotic capital’. For the uninitiated, erotic capital is about that special something that goes beyond beauty. It’s a combination of physical and social skills. As Dr Catherine Hakim of London School of Economics puts it, “Erotic capital not just spells out good looks but dollops of sex appeal, social attractiveness, liveliness, presentation and sexuality put together to create the right ‘package’. It’s time we accept that people no more look at beauty as something superficial. To be successful and popular in a fiercely competitive world, you should know how to turn ordinary into extraordinary with a combination of social and physical skills. Ad-man Prahlad Kakkar says, “The ad industry gets millions of resumes everyday. To stand out in the crowd, you got to have chutzpah and charm along with dashing looks. I only hire good-looking people because I want to see nice faces around me! And it’s not only women, men are also expected to have the desired erotic capital.” The Obamas, not conventionally beautiful, can easily attribute their success to their erotic capital. Both Barack and Michelle have smartly utilised their innate social intelligence and body language to reach where they stand today. So, how does one acquire the desired erotic capital? Build up your confidence and develop an extrovert demeanour. People should notice that ‘spark’ when you walk into a room! Model and fashion choreographer Marc Robinson says, “Whenever people like Queenie Singh, Feroz Gujral or Ayesha Thapar walk into a room, all eyes are on them. They have an unspoken charisma as they combine beauty, social skills, attractiveness and fitness to make an impact.” A media student from Chennai confesses, “During an on-campus hiring, selectors chose candidates who were vivacious.” While beauty is God-gifted, erotic capital can be acquired. Grooming expert Ruksana Eisa, says, “I’m presently working with the Femina Miss India contestants and as a part of grooming I’m teaching them important concepts like holding a good conversation and having a positive body language.” Eisa opines that Indians are brought up to be introverts. “Such is our upbringing that hardly anyone walks into a roomful of people and feels comfortable.” Model Nayanika Chatterjee says, “Maturity comes with age and wisdom. As you age, you gain more confidence and authority, learn to dress better, and lose your awkwardness.”

Sabkush Headlines: Going hypersonic with the X-51A WaveriderGoing hypersonic with the X-51A Waverider

Beyond supersonic speeds lies the realm of the hypersonic--faster than Mach 5.0, or in somewhat more down-to-earth terms, in excess of just under 4,000 miles per hour. On Tuesday, the U.S. Air Force plans to venture into that realm with the test flight of a chisel-shaped aircraft called the X-51A Waverider. The test wont last long. The sleek, 14-foot-long X-51A will zip through the air for only about five minutes, but in that time it could hit a speed of Mach 6, or six times the speed of sound. Itll be pushed to that blink-of-an-eye tempo by whats known as a scramjet engine, "scramjet" being the compression of the phrase "supersonic combustion ramjet." This kind of engine is designed to burn oxygen from the atmosphere, unlike conventional rocket engines whose functioning requires a combination of oxidizers and big fuel tanks.

South Africa captain Graeme Smith hailed a workmanlike performance by his players as the tourists moved into a 2-0 lead in their ODI series against the West Indies. Hashim Amla and Jacques Kallis came within touching distance of centuries as South Africa posted an impressive total of 300 from their 50 overs at North Sound in Antigua. The tourists got useful contributions from each of the top five but it was Amla (92) and Kallis (85) who provided the bulk of the runs, and Smith was pleased with his sides all-round display in the 17-run win. "We did what we had to do," he said. "The deck has been slow, we built good partnerships and manipulated the field well, especially in the middle period. We ran hard." Nevertheless, the hosts made a game of it late on, with Darren Sammy the chief aggressor. Sammy hit 58 off 24 deliveries to spur the hosts on to the brink of an improbable win, but the Windies fell short as they lost their final wicket with the score on 283 in the 49th over. Sammy came to the crease in the 41st over with the hosts on 200 and staring down the barrel of defeat, but responded with the fastest 50 in ODIs by a West Indian batsman to throw the result into doubt. However, the tail failed to wag alongside the impressive Sammy, who plundered six sixes in a remarkable cameo, and when Ravi Rampaul and Nikita Miller were run out within two balls of each other with just under two overs remaining the game was up. And Smith admitted Sammy had come close to dismantling his sides good work. "It wasnt our best day," he added. "Up until Sammys 20-odd balls, we were in control. Sammy played a great knock today." Smith refused to read too much into his teams late struggles, however, saying: "Its been a hell of a hot day and sometimes youre a little off your mark, and today he took advantage of that." West Indies skipper Chris Gayle, meanwhile, also praised the contribution of Sammy. "It was a good effort," he said. "Credit must go to Sammy for giving us some hope. "The middle period was our downfall - too many dot balls. "I think we can look at the positives from this game and take it to the next one. The middle period we need to work on. "We put pressure on ourselves in the middle and its going to make it difficult for the batters coming in to try and get 10 runs an over, so we need to try and work on that."

Bus driver Mike Hubbard had the shock of his life when at midnight he saw a mysterious shape wriggling in the middle of a road in Texas, USA. The shocked bus driver came to a screeching halt within inches of a semi-naked baby sitting in the centre of a busy road, At first Hubbard thought the ghostly figure might be a dog, but as he approached, the San Antonio driver realised it was a baby wearing just a nappy. Hubbard stopped just in time to avoid running over the infant. I was definitely in shock, Hubbard told local news station WOAI-TV. From a distance I cant tell exactly what it is. It looks like a dog, something moving around, I cant really tell what it was. I started slowing down and then I noticed its a baby in the middle of the street. After slamming on the brakes, Hubbard immediately jumped out of his seat to investigate. To me he looked like he was eight months old with a pamper, just sitting there. I couldnt tell if he was eating something or not. But, his eyes got real big when he saw the big old bus in front of him, Hubbard said. Then strangely, as the driver checked to see if the baby was alright, the childs father suddenly emerged, scooped up the infant and ran off. The horrifying moment was captured by a camera on the dashboard of the bus. In a matter of seconds, the childs father runs over and scoops up the baby

Sabkush Headlines: Brewing a better coffee cup online

Sabkush Headlines: Brewing a better coffee cup onlineBrewing a better coffee cup online

As is the custom these days, when digital-media strategist Toby Daniels sets up meetings, he goes out for coffee. When he would meet with Graham Hill, the founder of TreeHugger.com, Hill would bring along one of his side projects--a ceramic coffee cup in the manner of an old, diner-style paper cup, which he sells at WeAreHappyToServeYou.com. "Every time I used to meet Graham, he used to bring me one of these ceramic coffee cups sort of as a way to suggest I shouldnt be drinking my coffee out of a paper cup," said Daniels, who moved to New York from his native United Kingdom a few years ago. "Im still struggling to switch. I have five reusable cups at home and I never bring them with me when I get coffee on the go." Finally, Hills passive-aggressive statement of sustainability turned into an idea. While attending an April 2009 conference hosted by edgy consulting firm PSFK, the two came to the conclusion that maybe there was a real problem if a seemingly forward-thinking city dweller like Daniels couldnt seem to curb his addiction to disposable coffee cups. And thus, the Betacup Challenge was born: $20,000 of prize money at stake in a contest of designers, builders, and thinkers striving to create a legitimate alternative to the 58 billion disposable coffee cups that are thrown away, unrecycled, around the world each year. And this summer, after one false start nearly derailed the competition earlier this year, there will be a champion: Entries will close June 1, commentary and rating end June 15, and after that, judges select a winning design that will be awarded $10,000. The remaining $10,000 will be distributed among five community favorites. Theyll all be honored in an awards ceremony of sorts. The Betacup Challenge is purposely open-ended: design a coffee cup that addresses the problem of disposable coffee cups, and upload the concept to the Web. As a result, some of the 200-plus submissions are disposable cups that use alternative materials, some are reusable cups with a built-in incentive for actually bringing them back day after day, and some are entire infrastructures of cups and specialized recycling systems. Take, for example, the inflatable plastic "air cup" that claims to use less than half the material that a traditional coffee cup does, is already insulated to eliminate the need for cardboard sleeves, and which could be disposed at "cause recycling" locations that would funnel their reconstruction into materials for humanitarian projects, like water jugs and plastic lumber. A handful of entries weave Starbucks loyalty programs into the design of the cup. One of the top-rated Betacup Challenge submissions is the "Mille Mug," a collapsible cup that an MIT designer has already physically built, and suggests that it could be accompanied with a loyalty program that registers how many times the cup has been reused--which, in turn, ties into how many cups have been saved.

A collection of snippets can often be misleading and snippets on sexual mores, even more deceptive. Sex should have a sense of the erotic or of mystery. Like a management concept, it can’t be reduced to the 4 Ts. The comment - a little knowledge of sex can actually save marriages - is interesting. This is one case where a little knowledge is a comforting thing, for more information does not lead to better decisions and people still make the same mistakes. So why do even those who are supposedly informed not take protective steps? This attitude stems from ignorance and indifference. There are many educated people who are equally illiterate when it comes to sex. This just goes to show that higher education does not necessarily entail greater literacy. It all points to the still-prevalent patriarchy in society. This is what gives rise to a lot of hypocrisy too, as is evident from case three. Women still want their hymens back when a prospect of an arranged marriage looms. Suddenly, the woman sees herself as property and wants to be intact. Virginity as the sacrament symbolises the procrustean nature of marriage. The case shows that change is not easy and often hypocrisy is the guarantee for purity. Hence, for all the new-found permissiveness we talk about, it is important to trace the link between freedom and hypocrisy. Youngsters aren’t still aware about sex, they are just familiar about it and its repercussions. Recently, a student conducted a study on the contraceptive pill which she shared with a young audience and to her surprise, the biggest chunk of the audience comprised men. For men in India today, the pill is perhaps the answer to their worries. As it is, for long Indian men are rarely known to take responsibility for their (sexual) actions. To a certain extent, the various cases are symptomatic of urban trends. Take the instance of the tensions between a couple of professionals. It is clear that as a woman blossoms career wise and otherwise, the man seems to shrink sexually. Suddenly the woman not only earns more but enjoys sex more. The man, filled with a sense of failure, clams up like a mimosa in a corner. There is something about the pressure of urban life which makes sex remote. The job becomes the orgasm and couples seek more meaning in their jobs than in each other’s bodies. When work becomes a priority over relationships, sexuality fades to the sidelines, outcast like an old hobby.

Sabkush Entertainment: Review: MacGruber

Sabkush Entertainment: Review: MacGruberReview: MacGruber

Its a project that should inspire fear in the hearts of cinema lovers everywhere. The mulleted action hero known as MacGruber (Will Forte) is being given the feature film treatment. Intermittently funny in the two-minute sketches on Saturday Night Live, this inept character – who proves with mind-numbing consistency that he can never defuse a bomb on time – seems as deserving of a full-blown movie as androgynous Pat. But in his directorial debut, SNL writer Jorma Taccone achieves the impossible: MacGruber the film improves upon the (thin) source material and manages to become that rarity, a dumb movie thats actually wicked smart. At MacGrubers outset, we find this "real American hero" holed up in a cave. Having retreated from his life in special ops after the murder of his fiancée (Maya Rudolph), MacGruber preaches peace and sports some serious Michael Bolton locks. News of a stolen nuclear warhead draws him out of retirement, and forces the bungling agent to rustle up his faithful sidekicks, Vicki St. Elmo (Kristen Wiig), and military keener Lt. Dixon Piper (Ryan Phillippe, who deserves kudos for keeping a straight face throughout). Their hunt for the missing warhead leads them back to MacGrubers nemesis, Dieter Von Cunth (Val Kilmer), the arms dealer whose surname provides the punchline to many of the movies profane jokes.

Sabkush Lifestyle News: Lingerie fad: We like it hot! .Lingerie fad: We like it hot!

Malayalam superstar Mammootty, who has just returned from a holiday in the US, is all set to put on the grease paint for Kannada film Shikari. The shooting for the film will start May 22 near Bangalore. "I am fresh from a holiday and am rearing to be back to do what I know best. I will be starting shooting from day after for around eight days and then return to Kerala," said Mammootty over phone from Bangalore. The 56-year-old said that Shikari is an interesting film where he plays a double role, though the two characters never meet. "One role I play is that of an IT professional and by chance I get a half written novel from my friends room. The novel is set in the pre-Independence period. The novel tells the tale of a hunter and a village girl and I feel the central character in the novel is the story of me, I mean a fantasy," said the veteran actor. He will also be doing Cinemakatha. "Cinemakatha will be my next project. It will be directed by a new director. The shooting will commence in the first week of June. It is about a school teacher whose ambition is to be a film actor and I play that role. It is quite interesting," he said. His latest Malayalam film Pokiriraja is going great guns. "I am very happy from the response of Pokiriraja," he said.

This summer, it’s okay to be hot... that’s the message young designers Karishma Swali and Monica Shah of Jade, the fashion boutique on Peddar Road and in Khar, are giving women. By following their ultra feminine Spring/Summer 2010 collection, women can become girls all over again, because the line has a subtle child-like quality in it. “We’ve used cottons and silks which makes for the perfect spring-summer wear,” says Monica. An innovative line of bags interestingly inspired by the volcanic terrains of Ischia near Italy, act as perfect accessories. “We were impressed by Ischia’s natural beauty and lava-hot terrain,” adds Karishma, “every woman must check out our exquisite neck pieces with mother-of-pearl and soft metal chains. We have a ‘made-to-order’ series this season, as well. And the pièce de résistance of the collection is the ‘Fuchsia Ischia’ PVC origami bag.” They have knot bags for the woman on the run, and polka dotted ones for those who want to have fun. The delicately quilted and smocked bags are for... you decide!

Deepika Padukone Her appearance is stunning. She’s looking like an Indian goddess on the Red Carpet. She’s kept her accessories to a minimum, which is a good choice. Aishwarya She’s looking quite nice, but, I did prefer her look last year. At Cannes, you follow trends of the future, and it’ll take time for those trends to come to India. So, let’s respect her choice. Mallika Her necklace is such a no-no. Fortunately, there’s so much cloth on her, but a neck band would have definitely upped her look. Right now, it’s bad. Nikasha Tawadey: Deepika Padukone She usually looks good in both Indian and western clothes and her choice of wearing an Indian ensemble should be appreciated. She’s pulled it off well. Aishwarya She has never tried a saree at Cannes. I wish she’d wear that, as Indian clothes make her look outstanding. She could’ve set a trend, but sadly doesn’t. Mallika The juxtaposition of the gown with the Indian jewellery just doesn’t work. If you go Indian, go the whole way. This half and half thing doesn’t work.

Sabkush Entertainment: I would love to do comedy: Rucha GujarathiI would love to do comedy: Rucha Gujarathi

After playing a negative role in ‘Kkusum’ and typical Indian bahu in ‘Bhabhi’, television actress Rucha Gujarathi now wants to do comedy. "I would love to do comedy. It is difficult to make people laugh. Your comic timing and punch lines have to be absolutely right and this is what helps you prove your potential as an actor," Rucha, who returns to the small screen after two years with Star Ones new show Rang Badalti Odhani, told us. However, unlike the trend on TV where parallel leads often turn negative, Ruchas character Natasha is completely positive in Rang Badalti Odhani. Yashashri Masurkar is playing the protagonist, Khanak, in the show. When asked where she was all this while, Rucha said: "I was busy enjoying time with family. I worked continuously for eight years and was desperately looking for a break. I went to Hong Kong and Goa and had lots of fun. I am also doing a fashion designing course simultaneously." Rucha started her career as a child artist and featured in movies like Dancer, Hum Hain Kamal Ke, Kanyadan, and Shikari. She was also seen in music albums of Gurdas Maan, Pankaj Udhas and Vaishali Samant. She rose to fame with her role as Kali Kapoor in Ekta Kapoors popular TV soap Kkusum. She later went on to play the lead in Bhabhi. The actress was also seen in Rihahee, Waaris, Waqt Batayga Kaun Apna Kaun Paraya, Shhh...Phir Koi Hain and dance reality show Saas v/s Bahu. She has also done a cameo in Sab TVs comedy Yeh Chanda Kanoon Hai that stars Juhi Parmar, Asif Sheikh and Tiku Talsania in lead roles. Rucha said making a place for herself in showbiz was not an easy task for her. "I dont come from a family of actors and had to struggle to earn my place. My parents always supported me. I feel my hard work has paid off and I am enjoying the way my career has shaped up. Its been a wonderful journey so far," she said. The actress also made her big screen debut last year with Lottery alongside singer Abhijeet Sawant. Although the film didnt do well, but it hasnt deterred her from trying her luck in Bollywood again. "I would love to do Rani Mukerjis role in Black or something like what Kareena Kapoor did in Jab We Met," she said.

Sabkush Headlines: Seven point guide for the Big O

Sabkush Headlines: Seven point guide for the Big OSeven point guide for the Big O

1. Be comfortable : While experimentation is all important, do not try positions that you are physically uncomfortable in. What works for you, might not work for someone else, so remember the key to good sex is finding a hot spot that works for you and your partner. Experiment with positions that give you more leverage to hit the right spots. And feel maximum pleasure. Communicate what position you feel best in to your better half as that will give you better access to their moan zones. 2. Feel the vibrations : A lot of us may not believe this, but using a vibrator during sex can lend immense pleasure to both partners and if time is of the essence, theres nothing more efficient than this sex machine. Just ensure youre giving your man extra TLC, so that he doesnt feel left out or that hes not needed in the act. 3. Fantasy unlimited : Using your imagination during the act goes a long way if youre not really feeling all that excited. Fantasies are very powerful and act as a potent sexual stimulus, so use it to enhance the physical sensations that are happening and soon youll be in seventh heaven. 4. Curb distractions : While having sex, cut out all distractions - be it keeping your eye on an ongoing football match or on the clock or checking your phone or laptop for mails and messages. Be committed to the act of sex like its a job you are on because getting distracted will only deter your performance. 5. Dont think of the end result : Sometimes, the harder you try, the harder it becomes to feel pleasure. If all you are focussed on is getting an orgasm, chances are that it will be more difficult to attain. Dont make your climax the sole objective. Enjoy the sensations, the smell, the foreplay, the caressing and the words. As someone said - its a journey, not a destination. 6. Indulge in porn : Magazines, DVDs, internet porn; theres no harm using external stimulation to get a sexual high. Watching other people having sex is an incredible turn on and can speed your sex session well. Just remove the porn DVD from your disc drive before that an important presentation at work or if you have kids at home to avoid embarrassment. 7. Talk the talk : Gone are the days when sex was supposed to be a silent process. Talk freely to your beau about what turns you on, your hot spots and the ways in which you feel pleasured the most and its likely that you will discover a new meaning to a routine sex ritual. Also, during sex dont be afraid to moan aloud or call aloud your lovers name. It may just act as an added turn on!

Sabkush Headlines: Microsoft sues over click laundering fraud

Sabkush Headlines: Microsoft sues over click laundering fraudMicrosoft sues over click laundering fraud

This graphic shows a sharp spike in clicks over a 30-day period allegedly from click laundering, which Microsoft estimates represents about $250,000 worth of fraudulent advertising payments. Microsoft filed a lawsuit this week accusing a Web site of engaging in a new type of click fraud called "click laundering" by getting credit for clicks on ads that were made by botnets or unsuspecting users on a site set up for that purpose. The lawsuit names RedOrbit, a science news aggregator, as defendant, while a second suit names John Does to cover multiple unknown defendants who allegedly participated in click laundering on Microsofts AdCenter network, Microsoft said in a statement. To get around click fraud detection technologies, fraudsters are using so-called "parked" Web sites to launder the ad click traffic through, Richard Boscovich, a senior attorney in Microsofts Digital Crimes Unit, said in an interview with CNET. The traffic results from botnets of compromised personal computers that are programmed to click on the ads without the computer user knowing it. Or it can come from malware hiding on computers that hijacks the browser, taking the Web surfer to what looks like a legitimate search site, for example. So when the computer user clicks on what looks like a search result code that is hidden on the site, it registers as a click on an ad instead, Boscovich said. RedOrbit President Eric Ralls denied the allegations. "RedOrbit does not, nor has it ever, engaged, assisted in, or condoned click fraud," he said in a statement on Friday. "We are disappointed that Microsoft has made these completely baseless allegations and intend to defend against them vigorously." Microsoft asked RedOrbit to help in a beta test of its PubCenter platform, and the site did so for about five months, beginning in September 2008, according to Ralls. "An anomalous click spike occurred over a brief period of time in January 2009, and we immediately worked with Microsoft to identify the reasons for the occurrence, including providing them with complete access to our logs," he said. "At the time, Microsoft did not conclude that there was any suspicious activity on the part of RedOrbit, and we discontinued working with [Microsoft]."

Sabkush Headlines: Worlds Largest Airship Lifts Off For First TimeWorlds Largest Airship Lifts Off For First Time

More than 70 years after the Hindenburg disaster ended the golden airship era, giant blimps will take to the skies again with the launch of the worlds largest inflatable craft. The pioneering Bullet 580 is a 235ftlong and 65ft in diameter ship that can lift payloads of 2,000lbs up to 20,000ft in the air. It was inflated this week inside the Garret Coliseum in Alabama - one of the few facilities large enough to host the ship. The process took the developers at E-Green Technologies just over six hours. The £5.5million craft can be flown remotely or with a crew. The company plan to build a fleet of hire vehicles that they will rent out for between £200,000 and £550,000 a month. Chief Executive of E-Green Technologies, Mike Lawson, said: Its slow enough to be used for sightseeing, large enough to carry heavy cargo and enough volume of lifting capability to be flied 20,000ft unmanned. So you have a gift of all different technologies. Lift is provided by a system of seven bags filled with helium, while the inner hull is full of ambient air. Hydrogen was used in the 1920s and 1930s because helium was considered too expensive at the time. The payloads are carried inside the outer envelope of the balloon, which is only one sixteenth of an inch thick yet 10 times stronger than steel. It is made from a type of Kevlar, which is the tough material used to make bulletproof vests. Mr Lawson, said:If you hit a hard landing, the airship is just going to kind of bounce. Although the airship only has a top speed of 80MPH it can take-off and land vertically. The craft is also able to hover over an area for up to a week at a time - something neither airplanes or satellites cannot manage. The craft could therefore keep a close watch on oil spills like the one in the Gulf of Mexico or monitor pirates off the coast of Somalia. It could also serve as a near space satellite for broadcast communications, missile defense warnings, weather monitoring and geophysical surveys.
