Sabkush Sports :NHL: Philadelphia still flying highNHL: Philadelphia still flying high
The Flyers won the first game 6-0 and although the Montreal Canadiens put up far more resistance, the hosts were unstoppable as they maintained their record-equalling form with a 3-0 win. The hosts took the lead 14 seconds into a power-play when Danny Briere took a backhand pass from Claude Giroux and he flicked a wrist shot that sailed in off Jaroslav Halaks glove. Philadelphia were not at all as dominant but they were making their possession count and they doubled their lead through Simon Gagne in the second period with only their 11th shot of the contest. Gagne had two goes at a Ville Leino rebound and his second pushed the puck just past the outstretched glove of a prone Halak for his sixth goal in six games. Leino completed the scoring at 10:24 of the third, beating Halak with a bad-angled shot from the left circle the Montreal goaltender should have stopped. The victory means the Flyers have scored 13 consecutive goals since falling behind 3-0 in Game 7 of the Boston series before rallying for a 4-3 victory. That run breaks the franchise record of 12 and equals the NHL record of 13, set by the Anaheim Ducks. At the other end of the ice, the Flyers have not conceded a goal in more than eight periods, with goaltender Michael Leighton winning four games in a row and stopping all 58 Montreal shots he has faced, including 30 last night.
